Winter Tailor advice

Hi guys, as the weather has started to cool off ive noticed that the tailor schools have been harder to find. Personally ive managed 2 legal tailor from the hillarys north wall last week, last time i had caught tailor before that was in february. I wanted to know, what would be better, beach or rock fishing for tailor during winter? Im certainly heading to club capricorn soon over the next few weekends, as i had some success there last year, but again they were all in the 40-45 cm range. What can i do to possibly find some that are over 50cm, i only seem to find the little ones. I use small metals and poppers and also use weighted mulies, all have produced small ones, no big ones in perth yet.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
Aaron.

I find when there's a bit of swell around the bigger ones come out to play, usually just stick to mulies or live herring.

Save up for a tinny, trollin
Save up for a tinny, trollin with 1-2kg gear and 50cm+ tailor hitn lures aero is way more fun than stinky mulie hands or a million casts per fish
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Tried Trigg? I used to catch
Tried Trigg? I used to catch a few good sized tailor from there when I was still landbased. Can be hit and miss like all fishing, but it's still fun. Just cast unweighted mulies into the channel between the two reefs there and slowly retrieve.

fish reef rather than beach
fish reef rather than beach gutters much more likely to find the bigger ones there on lures

Not as many around in winter
Not as many around in winter as in summer but the ones you do come across will be a better size. Bitten knows, fish the reefs & you are more likely to come across the BIG tailor. I pulled about a dozen metro tailor over 80cm from reefy country last winter & there were heaps in the 65-80cm range. I know a other blokes got into them in the same size range last year to.

Thanks guys, yeah ive heard of some good tailor near the reefs. Would Grant street reef near cottesloe be worth a try? i hooked a nice one there during summer on a metal, but he ran me into the reef and busted me off, was using 15lb braid. Might put in a few hours this weekend or next.

Yeah Grant St has some decent
Yeah Grant St has some decent ones from time to time. The best places are reef that has plenty of white water & deep water right next to it but any reef with wash is worth a try.
