woodman point explosions?????

Was down at the woodman point bbq area today and around lunchtime heard several large explosions and what sounded like fireworks cracking away??? But it was the middle of the day so didn't think it would be fireworks..
Just wondering if anyone else heard it?? and knew what it was?

Sounded like Freo.. or somewhere nearby, had turned into a warzone!! Expected to see a heap of troops come storming up over the dunes..!!!!
