WRAPED BY WRASSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Hello, Police Emergency."

"HELP, HELP, i need to report a crime!!!"

"What type of crime sir?"

"I've been raped, WRAPED BY WRASSE!!!!!!"

Rolled up at Ocean Reef Marina, bang on 5.40am this morning, a slow procession of mad yakkers followed, and like an army of walking dead we proceeded to rig our mighty vehicles of the sea in preparation of the bountiful plunder.

Unfortunatley it was not to be.

Herb (Old Bloke) on his lovely little Outback, gotta love a man with color coordinated pool noodles on his yak!!

Was a beautiful morning, and all the boys rocked up, set up our yaks and headed out of the marina by 7ish, with a 6 odd kilometer journey ahead of us. Light, if any breeze caressed the rolling swell as we made our way out to the 3 Mile Reef, arriving in just under an hour's travel.

Ian (Beluga) on his X-Factor, note his ingenious camera mount at the front!

We moved around the northern edge of the reef, behind the breakers looking for good ground, which was in abundance. Found a suitable spot, and anchored up to begin the days fishing.

The back of the Bombie, light easterly just blowing the froth of the top!

For the next 2-3 hours we landed an abundance of Wrasse, Ian and Karl landed 2/3 of the Jackson Five (Port Jacksons), and Wrasse, i moved anchor, caught a few WRASSE, moved again, WRASSE, tried a bit further out, oh look, a WRASSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, its a pattern forming...

Jimmy (Foried Fisho) on his beautifully prepared Revolution, sadly, the flag at half mast is lamenting the passing of another WRASSE!!!!

During this time we were also entertained by a series of monumental hookups, resulting in bust off's and bite-off's!! The jury is still out on the culprits, but i had a few on temporarily, Karl, Colin and Ian all hooked up only to loose the fish. Herb and Jimmy seemed to be BIG FISH magnets, and the sight of Jimmy being dragged toward the 6-8ft breakers, full drag on, 200m of line out and skiing along at 5knots behind some monster unstoppable was an absolute hoot!!! I think they both ran out of terminal tackle to these behemoths of the depths!!!!!!!! We suspect possibly Sambo's, as they certainly knew which way it was to the Bombie, and mercilessly dragged the fisho unlucky enough to hook up toward a foamy demise!!

Jimmy hooked up big time, on his way in for a close examination of BOMBIE TOWN!!!!!!!!!

After a while we drifted north onto broken ground, where we hunted for the elusive KG's, which remain elusively elusive till this very day. In this area we found a few more WRASSE, and after anchoring and berlying up, trying my hand at another mysterious drag killing monster, i hooked another couple of Wrasse for good measure, whilst another 500 WRASSE dive bombed my kayak from a passing jumbo......... (not really, but damn, it felt like it..)

Karl and Colin, discussing the finer points of WRASSE!!

Toward the latter half of midday, we decided we had had enough WRASSE farming and decided to head back into shore, where the Fisheries guys stopped us for a quick survey on the 878276354892765 different types of WRASSE in Perth waters, and i found out to my utter dismay, that one of the billion types of WRASSE that i had caught were actually Breaksea, or Black Arse Cod, and that the 3 out of the 9873598758 WRASSE that i had caught were actually a terrific tasting fish.

Bugger....

All in all a fantastic day! We covered 18km by the time we landed and the Hobie was begging for another 10 before sundown, and a few more WRASSE too.

Inspite of the wrasse epidemic, at least you were out fishing.

Would of been good to at least sight one of the big unknowns.
