Yellowfin and Yellowfin!
Jumped on board Tim-o's crusher with Geoff78 yesterday chasing some yellow gold after Geoff had great success during the week. Started off really blowy so stayed in fairly close for the first half of the morning trolling and throwing stickbaits at schools of bonito, Pacific Ocean tuna poling style!
With bait sorted for Geoffs upcoming Kalbarri trip and a few of my shark fisho mates, and the wind slowly easing we headed out to Geoffs little pot of gold spot that had turned on for him during the week. Just as we threw the lures out I noticed 20 odd birds swooping the water about another mile further so cranked the lures back in and headed out to investigate. The birds dispersed on arrival but things looked promising so out went the lures again.
Mustve been about 5mins when my rod buckled over and drag screaming, the rod bouncing heavily in the holder, this was no bonnie! After a sizzling first run I started gaining line then spotted the gold nugget under the boat in crystal clear deep blue water, a sight I definitley wont forget in a hurry. Stoked with my very first yellowfin, yahoos and high fives all round.
Out went the lures again with Geoff and Tim on strike with me on bird spotting and fish tailing duties(ha ha). Another little bust up and some free jumping tuna a couple hundred metres away we dragged the lures towards them. The deep diver smacked first then Tims shallower lure was eaten. Unfortunately Tim pulled the hooks and Geoff landing his, similar size to the first fish. Threw the lures back in and a double hook-up but dropping both fish and that was the last we saw of the tuna for the day. Headed down to the Peel today for some more yellowfin action and it didnt dissapoint, with a handful of 30cm+ whiting, biggest going 35cm, and plenty of sub 30cm fish to keep us busy.
Feeling absolutely wrecked after 2 big days in the sun, the boss can expect a call in the morning, I think I need a day to recover! Big thanks to Tim and Geoff, learnt a lot of new things for something I had never really done before, cant wait to do it again wink wink Tim. Gonna be big summer for you mate. Cheers,
Beau

Thats the Strada Viral 50.
Thats the Strada Viral 50. Comes pre-rigged with trebbles but IMO are rubbish for whiting fishing. You can get the lure and the trailing hooks from the Bluewater Tackle stores

What is that tiny clip you have the line attached to (if Im right). Would making changes to lures piss easy.

Have used breaden clips in
Have used breaden clips in the past also. Small size and you just twist the lure up and around to take off - none of this fiddling trying to open and close the snap. The clip stays closed all the time so no chance of frgetting to clip back up or the clip opening up

Cheers Leemo. Just when you think after about 45yrs off fishing you know most things, something new catches the eye.
Edit: Just checked it out on You Tube and looks piss easy to do.

That looks more like a good size sandy than a yellow fin.
