What knot do you use to tie your leader on?
Im using 30lb mono and I have been lazy and tieing it straight to the O ring. I mainly chase edible fish so havent worried about too many sharks. But also as my technique improves with my casting im worried about letting a 6oz sinker fly so will want to be tying 60-80lb leader to my 30lb mono main. Im up with all the advanced braid to mono knots. When trolling in the past i have used Plait to albright but this knot seems to big for casting?? I have searched a few different sites and found nothing, the next step is to get some hollow core braid but this might be a pita if I "crack off" a few times.

Wind on leader
I have started to use a wind on leader with a dacron loop, tie a bimini double in my main line then cats paw to the wind on leader. It casts pretty good and the slide goes past the join with ease. I buy the leaders but would like to make my own.
Other members might have better options.

I use 20lb from Oring to sinker and also have main line straight to the Oring. For mono to leader I would still use double uni.

Im with Grant, made the switch to windons and never looked back. I use cortlands green spot dacron to make mine, pretty easy after a few goes.
When I did tie on heavy leaders I used a figure 8, might have a different name here, the link shows it. Eventually I started cracking guides using this knot so it isnt ideal.

Also I have 16mm guides right to the tip on my heavy surf gear, which makes casting heavy leaders much easier.

Cheers guys. I had a look at some vids on how to make wind ons. Man I dont know why I didnt take a look earlier, they look so easy, especially as I can tie a bimini in about 10 seconds. Im not ever going to try an fg on a boat again. Just need some dacron now and a good tv program to sit down and tie some.

Some dacrons are more tightly
Some dacrons are more tightly woven than others and this can make it hard depending how your making the wind-ons.
