FISHWRECKED / Jurien FAD, MK1
This MKI FAD was built using donations and the time from FW members:
I have been looking for an inexpensive alternative to the fibreglass FADs the PGFC use for awhile now. These 190l PE olive drums came up and I bagged a bunch (sorry Southcity104, will pick up them up from your back yard sometime ...).
Rather than hole them, and have to fix the holes, ala the PGFC's design with central pole, we built a cage for the container instead. The build was to use only solid profiles like rods and flats as these are cheap, and reduce the surface area exposed to salt water. My original design was modified and built by Grantartic and then later hot dip galvanised by Sea-Kem.
Next, to prevent it sinking as a result of being holed, I took it out to a pour-foam specialist where it was foam-filled, with chunks of styrofoam mixed in to cut down on how much of the pour foam was needed.
After that, it took the trip back to Southcity104 where he painted it up, assembled it and drove it to Jurien (seen with Alan James).
Hopefully Whitey can get it out soon, feedback may govern any changes made to the next iteration of the design.

is this the same one whitey was telling me is going out next week?
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Nice one Jamie.
Just a thought, wouldn't it have been better to have the cover at the bottom? This way the airpocket would keep the water out.
