Hi Cahal,
A great shot! It's a Threadfin Bream (or Monocle bream). It's a bit difficult to identify without examining the specimen, but I'm fairly sure it is a Celebes Threadfin Bream, Nemipterus celebicus. Nemipterus species are generally found in deeper waters of 30-100m depth, but I did collect some in Shark Bay in shallower places. They are often caught in trawls.
We do not have any records of this species as far south as Perth. I've checked our Museum collection records and the Zoological Catalogue, and the furthest south is Shark Bay. So your fish sets a new record! Can I keep a copy of your image on our list of range extensions (your name will be attached to it)?
sorry to jump in on the post but I caught this the other day, looks similar but with a few differences. anyone have any ideas? look to be most likely a threadfin bream.
na the original pic,ha u think mr marine biologist is perfect? ive worked in all aspects of the industry for 17 yrs and have seen and filleted countless amounts of the 4 main sorts of jobs, (goldband snap, rosy snap, ruby snap and sharptooth job) I can assure u the top pic is a rosy. the other lager pic is threadfin bream.

Not so sure
looks more like a Rosy to me.
The red on the tail and lack of prominent Gold bars on the flanks and head leads me to think it's a Rosy.
ID's certainly are harder in smaller juvenile sizes
