Went 11.5kgs on the lie detector.
Made me a very proud dad.
Drivers licence obtained a week back, new car purchased and skippers ticket next on the agenda. You go girl!!!

Tag error
Whoops dad used the big shiny tag applicator that looks like a screwdriver with a big sharp spike at the end by mistake........
Back to the bottom of the esky for that one I'm afraid. (Old mother hubbard's cupboard was bare before this one).
Managed to tag a couple of dhuies and BB's but no monsters.
Cheers

We have tagged 14 in two
We have tagged 14 in two trips so one would hope some fish will start getting recaught .A boat next two me caught and released a dhuie I tagged ten days before on the same lump. That dhuie had slight baratrorma and was vented and released with out release weight From memory it was 490mm

Excellent
I've been going extra slow on the retrieve and stopping for the deco at around 10m and they are all coming up fresh clear eyed and no visible barotrauma. I'm doing all my tagging on the floor too now after the first ones I tried jumped off the esky (Doh). Makes it easier and less trauma for teh fish.

gotta be happy to see your daughter get a pb for her birthday. congrats to Rachel.
Andy, when tagging the fish i heard a wet towel on top of a piece of foam rubber can be beneficial to the fish, less chances of bruising and stress

I agree Russ
The wet towel is good, but not sure about the foam rubber unless it's reasonably thin, as there still needs to be some force applied to get the tag in and locked away. I might have a chat to Gary Lilley about that one and see if he has used them and what thickness rubber mat is best. Personally I think it might help a fraction but its not a biggie.
I've been dipping the tag mat in the water before bringing them onboard and the carpet has some give in it so it still cushions the fish a little (but not too much).
The bigger fish I've been placing a wet towel over their eyes to shade them and help control them if they buck, but with these baby ones I'm trying to have the least handling as possible.
Personally I think organisation is the key with tagging. Have the tag kit ready, the release weight ready etc. Fish stays in the water until ready to go. Then up and over, hook out, quick measure, tag in , release weight in, and over the side. All with minimal handling.
Looking forward to having a few recaptured this year.
PS: Rachel and I had the wings on the BBQ last night....mmmmm.... yummy!!!

Happy B'Day Barneyboy
I take it that means you were born on teh 21st?
Actually Rachel's B'day was a week ago, but it was the first chance we have had since then for a fish, so a bit belated.
Cheers

I like your thinking Shorty
Perhaps not too far down the track I'll relax my self imposed "no booze on the boat" rule and enjoy an amber thirst quencher on the trip back in. "here's the keys rachel, take us home..."
"ahhhhh!" I can only dream.
