Jurien FADs: what is needed now.

Jurien FADs: what is needed now.

I was recently away, and this gear has arrived. Things that need doing before they can be launched include;

1) Splices; there are 2 coils each of sinking and floating rope per FAD. Each needs to be spliced together, thimbles fitted and *possibly* spliced sinking-to-floating, but will confirm.
2) Thimbles; accidentally omitted but needed, suit 20-22mm rope.
3) Signs; optional, but it might be nice. Anyone know anything about this? I notice some councils have piles of old street signs and we could just reletter them I guess
4) Radar reflector (and sign) post; I need to do a little experimentation, but we need to weld a post to the baseplate you can see on the big yellow floats, then stick the radar reflector on top of that.

Offers off assistance graciously accepted.

More: we have one other FAD built already and some rope to suit. We hope to deploy this nearby, but shallower to give more people better access.

Kane thanks for the offer.

The gear is presently in a driveway in Mt Lawley, the splicing can be done there. I still need the 20-22mm thimbles though, I think I will have to wait for places to reopen for that.

We still need a little bit of fabbing and welding;

I think perhaps welding a little bit of channel over the slot in the plate, then butt-welding poles onto the channel to take the radar reflector, then it needs galving.

We don't have any firm offers at present for the launching, but are looking into it at present.

I'll pop down to Taylor Marine Thursday and grab the thimbles unless anyone else can do it tomorrow?

We can chat about the welding whenever you can pop over after that to do the spices.

Are you in town for long, or due back to work any time soon Kane?

I can lend a hand too mate. If you can't get the thimbles on Thursday, call me at work, as I can get them from downstairs...
I can splice too :)
