Correct
You are correct with blackspot, but common name is bluebone. :)

They are all Bluebone
The Baldchin of the temperate waters and the Blackspot Tusk which take over further north are all bluebone, all closely related. Genus Choerodon. They mingle /crossover around Dirk Hartog, IIRC, all get called bluebone.
I'm never surprised when a tusk of any kind take squid, my favorite bait for them.

My next door neighbour
From up your way . He thinks cooked prawns are the ultimate bait for them . He’s got fair few photos to prove it . F@&k that I would eat prawns.

They love raw prawns
Whole king prawns seem irrestible to them. Bit expensive for bait, but I've stolen the odd one from the Xmas prawn buy and I'll swap a king prawn for a baldy any day. Away from the subject of baldies, my son caught a monster squid up at Winderabandi this year. Must have weighed over a kilo, which is big for a tropical squid. We converted that one squid into 6 rubies and two flame snapper, so, fair swap. The head was too big for a 14/0 circle whole, had to cut it in half.
