4 stroke engine. Which one to buy. Honda or Suzuki
Submitted by bouttime on Thu, 2008-02-14 18:01.
Calling all 4 stroke owners, which brand do i get.
I have narrowed it down to 2 motors to repower with. A 175hp Suziki or a 225hp Honda. At this time the honda is only $3K dearer and comes with the Vtec but the suziki is 50kg lighter but only a 4cyl. I average 200hrs a year so also service costs if anyone knows.
Its a tough decision and as i will prob be in a remote area eother Exmouth or Woomera SA i need it to be reliable.
Any pros and cons would be good from guys out there with that motor.
Thanks

Tim

Have you looked at the V6 Suzuki in 200 or 225hp Steve.
Was trying to work out why you were looking at 175hp in one brand vs 225hp in the other

The only reason being
The only reason being Honda's 150hp is a tad to small. Honda 175hp-250hp are the same weight so why not get the 225hp thats the same weight but with the Vtec. The suziki 175hp is lighter and only 4cyl. If i go up to a 225hp suziki than i would stick with a Honda as they are the same dollars. At the end of the day i am after fuel economy, weight and reliability.
I am on the borderline of 2T loaded so want to keep the weight down a bit so i don't go over thats why i was looking at the 175hp Suzuki but if i have to i will go the honda and work something out.

OK
I knew there must be a reason for the difference.
To be honest I dont think theres much difference between the newer 4 bangers. Pretty much comes down to personal preference.
My 140 suzi goes allright and have no complaints. Have had a Honda before as well and that was good too.
Servicing on my Suzi is about $240 every 100 hrs.(motor only no external filters/ steering included).

Our honda goes good, we get
Our honda goes good, we get 40+ knts on a glass day with our 6.5m northshore and the baot weighs over 2 tonne.
Fuel economy is good, from oceanreef to hillaries fad and searching around for bottom fish was $120 last time. And adverage $40-50 for a 45km trip.

I have a Johnsuki 140 and I
I have a Johnsuki 140 and I am very happy with it. If you are chasing weight and ecomony get the smaller motor.
I had the same decision to make, 140 or 150 and up. Ok so I only top out at 32knots, but how many days a year can you travel around at that speed? Economy wise I am happy and every ounce counts when you are braking while towing.

Seamedia.com
If you go to seamedia.com these people publish the fisherman and boatownner magazine I subscribe to, they do tests on all the motors and you can see them online they tell you the real performance figures not the manufacturers brochure figures but I know they do rate the suzukis very high and are lighter (I think)than the hondas so you get a better power to wheight ratio.....and cost less, If there are any problems with either motors they will tell you. It's a very informative magazine

Suzuki v Honda
Ive had a Honda 150 and now have a Suzuki 200 - both very good motors but would have to say the Suzuki 200 is quieter than the Honda. 100 hr service on the Suzuki was $650 at Hayways and from memory the Honda was around $500. It really comes down to the deal u can negotiate - the boys at North City are pretty good on their prices for Hondas - ask for Tim
