GPS and Sounder??

Right!  If I were starting over and looking for a new GPS and sounder, what you you guys recommend.  Not intending to get a microwave sized unit!  Not looking for combo units either.

Something up to a 8-10 in screen.

If you had to take the pick soon Yep the Furuno and any colour GPS.
If you have a bit of time, wait and see what the Lowrance broadband units are like, if they are as good as they say I think a few people may be changing units down the track.

A few specs to think about

Compatible with all 2007* and later LCX, LMS, X and GlobalMap® Lowrance models with 5-pin ethernet connector
Connectivity between transducer and single head unit, or up to four compatible head units using optional Navico Expansion Port-1
Single Broadband Sounder-1 module connects to any Lowrance transducer: Skimmer®, pod, shoot-thru and bolt-thru hull
Automatic operation at any frequency selected: 50, 83 and 200 kHz
Nominal output power 250W peak-to-peak / 31W RMS
Analog output power equivalent 30,000W peak-to-peak / 3,750W RMS
Tested sounding depths to 5,000' / 1525 m

Furuno GP32 and 585 or 620

Tue, 2008-04-15 03:18

Furuno GP32 and 585 or 620 if you're really stuck with space.

Unless you need a chartplotter which may take up more room again.

Yup, looking for  chartplotter GPS

I looked at the Furuno chartplotters and they seem to be are not as easy to use.  So far Raymarine seems the easiest to use.

my pick!

Tue, 2008-04-15 11:35

I've owned a Furuno GP7000 unit (GPS/PLOTTER) and that was very easy to use and it has one of the quickest (refresh) view software. As for sounder, yeh a Furuno 585 with a standard 600w for shallow stuff or 1kw if you plan to do shallow & deep stuff!

Wed, 2008-04-16 23:26

Alfred sorry I ook a while to get back, In my oppinion

The garmin units are easy to use from what I have seen/experienced, and they have a great screen.

If you choose the bluechart G2, it has very high detail, and auto guidance technology which creates a track for you to follow and you avoid reef, shallow water and other obstacles.

The Furuno GP 7000 C-Map (Max NT) chart card covers all of Australia Alfred, i had a customer today that said he's got Navionics which gives him a few more contour bars but less of the wrecks offshore compared to C-MAP.......they're all good these days....just what you prefer/used to etc!
