tinny bashing jurien
Submitted by Blake.T. on Sun, 2009-01-04 18:44
hey guys,
i know this has been done before but, i am heading to jurien in a couple of weeks and taking the tinny (4.35m) up there. i have fished there before but never from the boat. so i am looking for some help for some good ground inside and just outside the bay, for light jigging/drift baiting for pinkies dhuies etc and maybe trolling up some pelagics.
Also whats it like getting out through the reef there? ive heard the south passage can be hairy?
Any help is much appreciated and i'm not after secret spots, just areas too try.
Thanks
Blake

jurien
took my tinny to jurien in april last year and did really well...we took the north passage which was fine, south is also fine just watch the swells if over 2m.
We hit alot of cray pot lines in the 30 and did really well with pinkies to 70cm, couple of dhuies around the 3-4kg mark and some good sized baldies.
Inside the bay there is a section of reef about 2km straight out from the main town jetty which if burley'd up will produce pinkies and sambos for sure...
if trolling then head through the south passage and then south out the back of the island in the 20-30m mark for spaniards..

Sam

get yourself a sea chart and
get yourself a sea chart and check out all the reef areas before you go
south passage is ok if the swell is down
there is some nice reefs just outside the bay on the north passage which can produce some nice fish, i even got a 3 kg coral trout off them

thanks for info
thank for the info i thing the wind will play a large part in everything but any close in reefs may save the day. hope to get into 30/40 meter and the cray pots will be a good guide
