yeah I find that i use only 5 combo's but have more, once you start getting $$$ ones you don't pick up the cheaper ones any more.

Id hate to guess. Took about 16 to Exmouth and used all but 3. When you look at game fishing, light trolling, bottom fishing, jigging, land based they start to add up.

Onto it.

Fri, 2007-11-30 17:59

bouttimes onto it Dean. Gotta have a combo for every type of fishing, tho I do find I use alot less of them in WA. The light gear doesnt get as much use fishing deep but its not worth getting rid of any of it as it would cost too much to replace.

Yeah true, wasn't think about game fishing/trolling as you would be up for 4-5 combo's there alone.

I don't have as much as I'd

Fri, 2007-11-30 18:59

I don't have as much as I'd like but there are heaps that I don't use. Naturally you develop favourites and ones that always come out first. The ones I use the most are my Stella 8000/Jigwrex PE5 combo (usually in winter when I do heaps more bottom bouncing/jigging), my Calcutta TE200/Live Fibre combo for barra fishing and my Stradic 4000FI/Procaster-A combo for inshore plastics/spinning and also as a second combo for spinning for barra.

with 4 others and between us we had about 50-60 combos and didnt think it too much....and to think i left half of mine at home......its a bug buying fishing gear ...once you start buying ,  the bling of a new rod or reel catches your eye and then its sitting on your shelf at home.......i have over 20 and they all get used ....some just more than others....and as they say ...YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH....

combos

We have 11 between 2 of us. That covers everything we do.  We would rather spend our dollars on our boat and getting onto quality fish rather than having 20+ combos in the shed gathering dust.

40 years

Sat, 2007-12-01 14:39

Been fishin' for 40 years and you do gather a lot over that time , I still have the first rod and reel I ever got ,10 foot hollow fibreglass rod ( when hollow was the big new thing) and a Daiwa 7000A reel, this was the top of the line reel back then ( like having a Salty or Stella now).

Anyone thats been in my shed will tell you there is some very old gear in my collection , and very new gear as well,I have just bought a Kalidia Kix 2500 for the murry cod and yellow belly we chase on a private dam loaded up with 8 lb crystal fireline .

I look on it as a collection and just picking up a rod from my youth gives me memories that makes me keep it and not chuck it out .

I think around 35 combos but we chuck different reels on different rods all the time plus when everyone in the family fish you need extra gear , just going down E shed for a fish see's 4 small combo's for baitfish, 1 light spin incase some tailor etc are around and a heavy combo to soak a mulla bait  thats 6 and if one of my sons friends come there is another 1 or 2 for them to use .

You don't buy 20+ rods and reels to use at once. Its just what you accumulate over time. I have about 6 outfits I regularly use and that pretty much cover most of the fishing I do in Perth.
