Best lures for Tailor
Submitted by Ashen on Sat, 2015-11-07 10:00Hi guys
I have always used mulies on ganged hooks when fishing for tailor. This year however, I would like to try lures. Which lures have proven to be successful?

Steel collapsible craypots, do they work?
Submitted by Smithy27 on Sat, 2015-11-07 07:46Hi all,
Looking at getting a couple of cray pots, does anyone know if the steel ones that are made in Bibra lake-
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bibra-lake/fishing/craypot-solid-steel-collapsible-cray-pot-full-size-/1089711685) actually work/perform ? Im wondering if they would be too noisy?
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Cheers

Squidding
Submitted by choc on Fri, 2015-11-06 19:09Hi Guys
I'm coming up to Perth tomorrow for three days and was thinking of bringing the boat(4.2m runabout) so I can take the old man for a fish.
I see that it is going to be a bit windy so might try for a squid or maybe a swan river fish/crab.
My parents live in Clarkson but I don't mind travelling, even as far as Rockingham. If anyone could give me some advise it would be greatly appreciated.

My pots been pulled but how do you know ?
Submitted by mikeurnot on Thu, 2015-11-05 16:06OK to start this off. How hard is it to know if your pot has been pulled ?
You can only assume its been pulled . Well I will be trying out my little invention when I pull my pots and rig them up with my simple invention.
Yes it will be able to show if your pots have been pulled . The beauty of this is it is like having your own pin number on them only you will know it.
I will keep you all posted on it and will include pictures of the way to set it up if all goes well with the testing.
This is mainly to be able to give fisheries more information as to where they are pulling illegally.
Cheers

Trailcraft made in China?
Submitted by duges66 on Thu, 2015-11-05 10:40Got a mate who's thinking of buying a Trailcraft 525 Runabout. (He's just sent me an email)
I used to have a Trailcraft back in the day and was great entry level boat IMHO, particularly for the river / estuary - but not so flash on my kidneys coming back in with the doctor blowing
I've since owned fiberglass and wouldn't go back to ali & that will be the main point I will be making to him.
I went to the website & from what I can gather they are now made in China.
Anyone had any experience with these new Chinese manufactured Trailcrafts.
Appreciate your thoughts....

Diver Required, stuck Pot, PICS Added
Submitted by sandbar on Wed, 2015-11-04 08:21Gday all, any diver available to retrieve my pot please? Its in 12 meters and seems that it has moved 50mtrs with or without assistance. Definately not where
I left it. 15 mins from Pt Kennedy ramp.
1st pic shows rope and I think pot is in the pic? and the ground 50mtrs from where I dropped it. I did watch it land (which way i dont know) and I hung around for 1/2 hr to see if it moved.
2nd pic is where the pot was,
I put "white line" on to try distinguish my pot from the bottom
Cheers Adam

Dob in a cray pot Yanker
Submitted by Tom M on Tue, 2015-11-03 16:34So early in the season and already people think they have the right to pull other peoples cray pots.
Suggest we all keep an eye out and dob in anyone seen pulling other peoples pots, look after your mates. Suggest using your phones to catch them in the act.
Maybe we should set up some site to name and shame any person prosecuted of this mongrel act.

Cast-able sounder
Submitted by oneh on Mon, 2015-11-02 21:22Anyone here tried the iBobber or the deeper smart fish finder before?
Its essentially a castable sounder device that you attach to your line (much like a bobber) and it has a sounder detector that runs through an app on your phone.
Basically a land-based sounder. Would be keen to hear people's reviews of it
cheers

Fisheries wa Website not allowing payment
Submitted by Goodie on Mon, 2015-11-02 20:14Has anyone had this issue before?
I am trying to get my RBFL and the fisheries website simply says payment unsucessfull. Tried several cards (all have money) and my wife also tried to make a payment and was also unsucesfull.
This has happened to me before and always in the end it accepts the payment later with the same details. Bit of a problem when i plan to hit the south coast tomorrow.
Anyone have any solutions ?

cray fishing advice
Submitted by sparrow on Mon, 2015-11-02 16:23Hey guys,
this is my first real crack at cray fishing and want to make sure I'm getting it right so any advice would be welcome, and thankyou in advance!
Firstly my boating mate and I have currently got 2 plastic pots, and 2 full size timber (jarrah frame with pine slats and 2 bait baskets, steel bases).
The timber pots have an extra 5kg of weight on top of the steel base. would this be substantial?
The plastic have somewhere in the range of 15-20kg in them. Enough?
I kept my snapper heads to use as bait but wondering if they are not "smelly" enough? maybe tuna heads instead?
Lastly I have been placing the pots mostly on 5 fathom in 7-12 meters and using a bathiscope to set them right next to big bombies/ledges but on the sand. It looks good but have got nothing at all so far so looking to seasoned peoples advice to better my chances.......or is it a little early in the season, bad moon ect....
Thanks guys,
Sparrow

Life jackets to become compulsory?
Submitted by resurgence on Mon, 2015-11-02 14:48Interesting that the coroner has called for the wearing of life jackets to be mandatory in unprotected waters...
Also touches on better education on how to use safety equipment.
Life jackets are already mandatory in some eastern states while underway.

Weekend Smorgasbord
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2015-11-02 05:57First venture out to Rotto for the season on Sunday. With near perfect wind conditions, we headed towards Parker point.
Due to it looking pretty Sharky upon arrival, we drifted around Porpoise Bay for some squid, half for bait and half for dinner.
After a hour, we had three onthe boat, with the same number lost again, and schools of them swimming up looking at the jigs. Although wanting more, we had enough.
Putting over to Parke Point, we had a quick dive onthe outside of the reef and it was pretty sparse. Only two crays spotted so we bailed half way through and went to another shallow spot where we got 8, most of which were girls. We ended up with one cray.
A quick fuel tank top up had us putting towards the windmills to get a feed of whiting which were very much onthe bite. Lower bait down with bail arm open when onthe bottom and count to ten, retrieve. 7/10 times we had a keeper on. Even managed a few herring in 10m
Quick putt over to another spot which a mate had given me for some KG's and after catching two of the biggest sandies I have seen, we spent the last hour dodging blowies in 12m of water and decided to call it quits.
At the end of the day, one cray, two herring, three squid and twenty odd whiting. Sat on 22 knots all the way there, and 26 on the way back, which is pretty good for my boat.

marine safety inspection
Submitted by paul d on Sun, 2015-11-01 13:47Went out this morning from woodies point to go and get some Abs from Carnac Island only to find in my early morning haste that i forgot to put my sounder/gps on my boat. No worries just a quick trip out and back in an hour or so. Driving out there i realised i also forgot to take my saftey grab bag with my flares and epirb , oh well nearly there not gonna go back. back at the ramp Marine Saftey were there waiting to check saftey equip and skippers ticket. Guy came and asked to see saftey gear and told him the situation expecting to get fined. Good young bloke understood my dilemma and said well we didn't see you out there and can't say you didn't just turn around in the harbour and come back and let me off. Top bloke ! Thanks alot ! He could have been an arsehole and booked me , but didn't.

Sounder Shot
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2015-10-31 19:22Just finished installing my new sounder and stoked with the quality with me really not yet having a clue how to get the best out of it and learning how to read what I am seeing.
Came across this today not far out of Meelup. Is this snapper feeding on smaller fish?

last nights Wagoe session
Submitted by holth on Sat, 2015-10-31 11:30Up at wagoe atm with Shane and Rambo and last nights session was a ball tearer weather and fish wise.
Fished till 3am with plenty of action through the night.
The session started well with afew tailor for strip bait and then had the first good mulla on the beach by 8pm. Over the next few hours some good fish kept us entertained. In between the bigger fish there were the usual soapies and odd tailor to keep bait levels up. Some big sharks also came to play ending in some big bust offs.
My mate rambo was slow out of the blocks untill he loaded up on a good fish. Called again for a good mulla but to our surprise up popped a nice cobia. This is actually his second cobe in 2 months from here as he got one last time similar size.
After high tide things slowed but l was loaded up to another good fish. This time a nice pinkie
The mullas and pinkie were released and swan off well. The cobe on the other hand went in the ice box.
Fishing again tonight but as l write this theres abit of weed moving in and the swell has picked up, but We'll still give it a crack.
Sorry about pic quality.
Paul
