My favorite boat ramp
Submitted by just dhu it on Tue, 2009-06-16 09:40This would have to be my favourite boat ramp , away from the hussle and bussle of perth and metro boat ramps, great place to be when theres no swell as per second pic, be there on a day that has more than 4 mt swell and you will only require a surfboard as ot gets pretty hairy through the channel , only 8 more weeks to go

sounder LCX 37 broadband
Submitted by just dhu it on Mon, 2009-06-15 21:23Here are some recent photos of my new LCX sounder and broadband unit that i purchased prior to going to exy this year , we started trolling in 75 mts plus and then went out to 260 mts until we lost the depth indicator due to rough conditions but we were still receiving a bottom signal back. These arent as good as Andy Macs who copied on the drift , I havent yet tried to manual zoom as the depth was dropping to quick and i havent changed over to brown bottom colour record which allows all other colours to be used for all other fish etc, this is the best situation while trolling to experiment with your sounders capabilities

Broadband Sounder Pics
Submitted by Andy Mac on Mon, 2009-06-15 14:38Still trying to get the hang of the sounder, but so far getting some reasonable results. These are a few snapshots taken off a recording I did the other week.
I absolutely love the feature that lets you mark waypoints from the sounder. No more having to drive back along a snail trail to find a lump, this thing solves that problem very nicely.
The last pic being the result from the first spot.

Metro Fishing Shops
Submitted by Craig Pearse on Sun, 2009-06-14 17:08I went down to Perth last week on our yearly trip down to see the family. In my spare time I went to 2 Big name tackle shops,
only to find that the price of everything was between $20-40 more than up here in Karratha. The price didnt really bother
me I just thought that been metro the price of things would be abit more lower. In the end I didnt buy anything till I got
back home (spending local is a good thing I supose)

Recommendations Needed
Submitted by stalker on Sun, 2009-06-14 17:02Hi all,
I just got hold of this 4.8 mtrs fiberglass boat with a 50hp motor. I am living in Illuka and launch my small boat from Ocean Reef boat harbour. As I am pretty new to this area, I am just wondering whether any of you guys would be able to recommend any good fishing sites around the areas of Ocean Reef, Hillarys, Scarborrough or Mindarie. How far out and around how deep of water? What fish can I expect to catch out there? Please bear in mind the size of my boat and motor. Any recommendations or comments from you experienced guys out there will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

advice wanted please - bream & redfin
Submitted by kavman on Fri, 2009-06-12 15:27hey just wanted some advice,
taking the dinghy out on sunday morning on the river with a couple of mates and wanted to know where the bream are biting at the moment. We were thinking of launching from point walter boat ramps and visiting a few yacht clubs around there. Would they be in that area at the moment or further up/down riveR?
Also, a mate of mine recently bought some new kit and was wanting to test it out weekend after this one. Can anybody tell me any places (within a couple of hours) near perth where we can try for redfin perch? shore or boat-based both are okay. Thanks guys.

gaff
Submitted by MACZTA on Fri, 2009-06-12 03:29Hey guys, if anyone could help it would gladly be appreciated, I saw a video from oz bout fishing. except in this vid they did not use a gaff with a hook, more like a stick with a loop of wire that closed on the fishes tail when captured... Would anyone happen to know what this is called and where would I find a good pic of this 'gaff' and vid of it in action??? Tx any help is gladly appreciated...

Best fishing presenter?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2009-06-11 22:18Just thought I'd throw this one out there. Who do you think is the best fishing presenter past and present and why? Is it the way they talk to the viewer, show what you want to see, how they fish? Just interested in who watches what and what they like to see.

- Beach access? I have a Subaru outback will i be able to get onto the beach in this car? Are there spots you can get to without driving on the beach?
- Crocs and tides: Should i take my kayak?
- Of course fishing? What can I expect? Lures worth taking?

Boddington?
Submitted by Auslobster on Thu, 2009-06-11 14:58Going out there to work for at least the next four weeks...could pan out to months...and wondering about fishing opportunities there? I know my chances of a mackeral/coral trout/dhufish would be fairly remote but after having a look at the satellite image it appears there is a waterway of some sort meandering through town, and I thought redfin perhaps? If I get any positive feedback by tomorrow I can shoot down to the post office to get the freshwater licence!
Any help appreciated, John

US fisherman nets live missile
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2009-06-11 08:47Instead of what he thought was a very large fish, a Florida fisherman netted a live and very unstable air-to-air guided missile that was floating in the Gulf of Mexico, police said.
According to the bomb squad that dismantled it, the heavily corroded missile could have exploded at any moment, but it was kept onboard the Bold Venture boat by commercial fisherman Rodney Salomon for 10 days before he returned it to port.
Mr Salomon, 37, from Saint Petersburg, Florida, was long-line fishing 80 kilometres out in the Gulf from Panama City when he "caught" what was clearly a military ordnance, said the Pinellas County sheriff's office.
He waited well over a week to return to the Madeira Beach dock, where he notified authorities.
The missile was dismantled within hours by bomb specialists at a nearby military base.
The experts said the missile was corroded by its apparent extended stay in saltwater. According to the bomb team "it was live and in a very unstable state," police said.
Mr Salomon asked the bomb squad if he could keep the missile after it was made safe, but his request was denied.
