Pink Snapper in the Cockburn Sound
Submitted by Tim Moloney on Mon, 2009-06-29 07:47Could somebody please enlighten me, as I am unsure to what are the regulations for fishing for Pinkies in the Cockburn Sound are at the moment?
Also, I have actually never fished in the Cockburn Sound for Pinkies, what sort of bottom am I looking for, weed, lumps etc?
I have never fished for Pinkies down there before, and am planning to, I am assuming that I anchor up somewhere, and get a burley trail going!
Please enlighten me, as I am a virgin in the Cockburn Sound?

Sinkers/Anchors
Submitted by Kevin on Sun, 2009-06-28 22:34Went for a drive to the North Mole last night to checkout the dirty weather. And sure enough there in the100k winds 4mtr+ swell and the waves rolling in faster than I have seen in ages was someone fishing.
My question is what the f^*# can you cast out without snapping a rod or giving ones self a Hernia that will hold a bait still in those seas.

Submitted by couldntcatchacold on Sun, 2009-06-28 20:17well im looking to start sourcing my own fresh bait as im assuming its going to be more effective than the frozen stuff i buy in shops and was just cruious as to what you all use to gather ir if you use it? i know to catch smaller fish and use them as live bait but am wondering if anyone uses a bait pump or just digs things up or maybe collects mussles and baby crabs just looking to get an insight into what gear im going to need to start getting my own fresh bait and a little bit of how to / where to if anyone doesnt mind sharing

South Mole cray pots
Submitted by westaus_ryan on Sun, 2009-06-28 17:07I spent alot of this weekend fishing the south mole, catching plenty of herring and a couple of skippy. The 30kt+ conditions made for some hard work out there at times, but what made things tougher was avoiding the cray pots and bouys that were set no more than 10 metres out, all along the ocean side of the wall.
If someone hooked up that big snapper they'd been cutting their teeth for, there's a good chance it would have entangled with one of the ropes.
The 2 two blokes puttered out on their dinghy friday night, saturday morning and night, and sunday morning to check their pots, rebait and reset, only to create more problems for many people fishing the wall at the time. They were asked many times to reconsider the location of their string, and were continually asked why; when they had the entire frikkin ocean to venture, they would putt around a land-based hotspot and inconvience everyone involved.
Maybe i'm just having a whinge, but i was toothed off to say the least, so were hundreds more over the weekend.

Rod Bags
Submitted by jay_burgess on Sun, 2009-06-28 16:07Hey guys does anyone know where you can buy rod bags? I particularly like the nylon type instead of the cotton style ones and it needs to be able to fit two pieces of a rod. One of my GT rods bag only fits the rod when the rod is together which is too long (7'8") so I'm looking for a new bag.

Off-Road Camper Trailer for Hire
Submitted by Tim Moloney on Sun, 2009-06-28 12:07Hi All, Just letting everybody know that Ocean to Outback has an Off-Road Camper Trailer still available for hire for the first 2 weeks of the school holidays up until the 17th July.
Cost are $370 per week, and I know that many of us go away for the school holidays, and accomodation sometimes can be very hard to come by, especially camper trailers in school holidays.
Sorry, I have forgot to add that all members of fishwrecked are getting 10% any hire for the first 3 months, so the hire cost would be $330 per week, not $370.

Gama SL12s
Submitted by WODF on Fri, 2009-06-26 14:56Hey everyone,
first of all, how do people rate them as a light gauge game fishing hook? Has anyone had any problems with them? Want to replace my current hooks and start chasing small tuna with small skirted lures (approx 15cm long). Also what size you recommend for this purpose as I don't have the chance to compare locally. Any other info would be great.
Cheers.

10 Wt fly rod, which one!!!
Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2009-06-26 10:00OK, I have to face it that the GT killed the top half of my trusted old Fenwick Highlander, and after listening to some, especially Ryan, I Now realise that the bottom half is a garden stake!! Bloody sad with the beautiful cork grips etc.
What then and not Loomis as I am to rough. Looking for quality and price only a small issue. If everyone says Loomis I will get one.

What would this weigh?
Submitted by barneyboy on Thu, 2009-06-25 23:13I caught this a couple of weeks ago. I didnt have anything to weigh it with though and let it go. I guessed it at 10 to 12 kg. As I havent caught many this size, was interested in what other people thought the approximate weight would be.

Northern Territory Changes to Recreational Fishing Possession Limits
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2009-06-25 13:58Changes to the recreational fishing possession limits in the Northern Territory will come into effect from 1 January 2010.
The Minister for Fisheries, Kon Vatskalis, said the changes include a reduction in the personal possession limit for black jewfish and Spanish mackerel from five to two.
“Recreational fishing is extremely popular in the Territory and an important part of our great lifestyle,” said Mr Vatskalis.
“These changes will help protect our valuable fish stocks and ensure that locals and visitors continue to experience high quality fishing into the future.
“The new measures have been approved by Government following extensive public consultation earlier this year.
“The changes will come into effect from 1 January 2010 to allow time for recreational fishers to become aware of the new rules.”
The changes include:
Personal possession limit of two for Black Jewfish and Spanish mackerel
Personal possession limit of 30 cherabin and/or red claw
Personal possession limit of 3 sharks of any species, including a prohibition on the taking of sawfish
Requirement to use turtle excluder rings in freshwater pots
Boat limit of 10 freshwater pots per vessel (when two or more people on board)
A prohibition on the recreational taking of clams

Submitted by Roger Knife on Wed, 2009-06-24 17:57hello again
Just to say thanks to everyone for all the help and support so far, its been awesome how you are all so willing to help...so thanks.
Next questions is....Looking at what gear to take regarding tackle, will buy alot in perth due to weight restrictions on the plane but what sort of terminal tackle will I want to stop some of the bigger fish like rays, small sharks, threadfin (if im lucky), mulloway ( if im really lucky) etc, i was thinking hooks in the 4/0 to 8/0 range and a leader of between 60lb to 150lb dependant on the species. also some wire. Could anyone ehlp me out with this by suggesting a species and then the teminal tackle and rig to aid capture. cheers one and all
