Has anyone seen or tried the new Daiwa Emeraldas Colossal 2508R reel
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2009-07-20 14:23
They look like a pretty good, light sport fishing reel with 13 ball bearings and all the Daiwa bling.
I can see Matt (Hlokk) going for one of these.
This is Daiwa PR blurb
The all new Emeraldas lands on Australian shores
Daiwa’s legendary Real Four technology changed the way anglers used threadline reels, gone were the days that they were regarded as inferior. Real Four introduced Digigear and made threadlines become the number one choice for heavy duty fishing. In 2009 Daiwa introduce the amazing new Emeraldas Colossal 2508R reel, using all the Real Four technology, to produce one amazing reel that is guaranteed to become legendary.
The Real Four concept took it to the next level with the introduction of Hyper Digigear.
Hyper Digigear, the next generation of Digigear is made from a high intensity C6191 special alloy which was adapted from Saltiga’s legendary gearing system.
This new high accuracy miniaturization of Saltiga’s gearing was tested at over one million revolutions before showing any sign of wear and tear, that’s the equivalent of over 5 years of heavy fishing pressure. With technology and testing like this it’s no wonder Daiwa are the leaders in fishing tackle innovation.

How is this weather
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2009-07-20 12:58This would have to be one of the roughest winters I can remember when you consider the number of big storms we have come through the south west so far this year.
Thankfully it looks like things will be pretty good for fishing again by the weekend.

Oceanside Tackle " Exclusive Weezel" Premium Poppers!!
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 2009-07-19 19:04I recently booked another fishing trip to Exmouth for next month and at the same time i was looking at buying more poppers. I have plenty of the same old stuff to throw at big fish but I was on the hunt for new/good quality poppers. I was speaking to a friend that is a very keen angler also about poppers who just so happens imports fishing tackle. I said i'm going to Exmouth and want some quality poppers and he said we'll " i'll pop by ya shop Ryan, you'll like these...... trust me"
He popped in and showed me some samples and straight away I recongnised these poppers as proven fish catches. The down side to quality gear on the market today is the very high expense $$$ but these Weezel products change all that!
Weezel Lures are;
* Proven fish catches.
* Quality is just as good as proven premium Japanese lures.
* Multiple epoxy coats for long lasting visual finish.
* All metalic automotive paints used.
* 2mm S/S wire & 350lb Commercial grade swivel.
* S/S componentry & balanced for maximum performance.
Oceanside Tackle & Marine has secured the "Exclusive range of Weezel Lures" for WA and more to come....watch this space!
Pilbara Brad has just come back from a great trip and he not only uses the Weezel products he gives em a hiding and they produce fish. The best thing is you can buy 3 of these Weezel poppers to say 1 of the others on the market today!
Okay, i'll post pics and the FW Special is;
Buy 1 $59.95
Buy 2 or more and $54.95
Buy 5 or more and $49.95
Oceanside Tackle & Marine has secured the "Exclusice range of Weezel Lures"
Weezel "Ferret"
Weezel "Stoat"

Karratha Boys
Submitted by Bodie on Sun, 2009-07-19 09:36Going to be up in Karratha from Wednesday to Sunday for work, so going to pack some rods for the trip.
Was going to head out with a mate on his boat, but apparently the Roubourne cup is on.
So going to have to change tactics to try land basec (unless anyone needs a deckie :) ).
Last time i was up i did a little land based at the samson causway, with a little bit of success, but would like to do a little more popping and spin fishing over from rocky outcrops.
One thing i found is that there was not a lot of entrys to the cost via road, so wondering if anyone has some general directions to access places where we might find some GT's, Queenies etc...
At this stage weather looks Wicked!! with high tide in the middle of the day.
Cheers guys, any if anyone needs a deckie or wants to catch up for a beer let me know :).

Getting even
Submitted by catchalittle on Sat, 2009-07-18 18:11My husband (the complainer) said, 'OK, but don't forget to wash her, she stinks.' He reminded the vet that it was his WIFE (me) that wanted the dirty cat, not him. My husband and my Vet don't see eye to eye. The vet calls my husband 'El-Cheap-O' , and my husband calls the vet 'El-Charge-O' . They love to hate each other and constantly 'snipe' at one another, with my husband getting in the last word on this particular occasion.
The next day my husband had an appointment with his doctor, who is located in the same building, next door to the vet. The MD's waiting room was full of people waiting to see the doctor. A side door opened and the vet leaned in - he had obviously seen my husband arrive. He looked straight at my husband and in a loud voice, said, 'Your wife's pussy doesn't stink any more. We washed and shaved it, and now she smells like a rose. Oh, and, by the way, I think she's pregnant. God only knows who the father is!' Then he closed the door.
Now THAT, my friends, is getting even!

great trip and a couple of pb's
Submitted by flash as on Sat, 2009-07-18 14:34Hi all! We have just returned from a week at Warrara station. It was our first time there and we were not disappointed. Adam had a personal best with a 120cm long Spanish Mackeral estimated weight of about 15kg and caught in the first 15 minutes outside the reef.He also landed a 75cm spangled emperor estimated 5+ kg , his first Balchin Groper at 39cm ( released as 1 cm under sized) , around 50cm trevally. I also caught my first Trevally around 45cm which i was wrapped with, at least until our friend steve pulled in a 86cm! Aside from the great fishing, and i do mean great. Lots of reports of Spangled Emperor , squid , trevally and soapy mulloway. It is a magnificent part of the country and my little boat went really well. The kids had a ball and weather was a nice change from what we came home to. We are all really looking forward to the next fishing adventure once i get through some hospital stuff this year. Warrara is definately on the agenda. I even had a guy line me up for a snatch strap rescue whilst loading my boat on? He told me I'd need two straps to get out??? Considering i was not yet stuck i suggested he let me have a go first. My pajero and girl power sailed straight up the beach no probs..... He just hadn't counted on letting a woman do it lol!!! And Adz was just a little bit proud of me .
Thanks heaps to Ryan and Carnarvonite for their willingness to help when we encountered tyre problems outside Carnarvon. Its great to know there was help around the corner!!!!!!

Quinns Rocks
Submitted by Biggo on Sat, 2009-07-18 06:10Hi all
I just moved to the Quinns Rocks / Jindalee area in the northern suburbs. I havent seen much fishing going on lately, but that might just be the weather. I imagine you get the usual herring and gardies along the beach, but is there anything else worth chasing for a land based angler in this neck of the woods?
Any local knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Dream fishing trip
Submitted by GusG on Thu, 2009-07-16 12:55
OK so put on your thinking hats and come up with your dream fishing trip. Anywhere, anytime. You have at your disposal unlimited funds, a time machine (if req
) and anything else required.
I reckon my ideal trip would be land based game fishing back in the 80's (with today's gear) at Devil's Gorge in Jervis Bay NSW. Fishing over the summer months for a beakie and the winter months for BIG yellowfin off the stones. Can't fish off this location any more as it is now a marine park
There are fancier trips out there but for me this would be the ultimate. What would be yours?

Government flags potential development of Carnarvon waterfront
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2009-07-15 13:35Carnarvon could become the focal point for a tourism, commercial and residential development following the State Government’s call for Expressions of Interest on a waterfront site close to the town centre.
The site has mostly undeveloped land next to Carnarvon’s active commercial fishing harbour at the mouth of the Gascoyne River. It is about 1.5 kilometres south-west of the town’s commercial centre and overlooks the Fascine waterway, which links the yacht club to the river.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the Expression of Interest process aimed to identify the interest of suitably qualified companies with financial and practical experience, to transform the site into an exciting mixed-use venue.
“If we can harness public and private expertise to create a vibrant and attractive water-oriented development demonstrating leadership in design and improving the amenity of the Carnarvon Boat Harbour, it will enhance the tourism appeal of the town and the region as,” Mr Grylls said.
“LandCorp is calling for Expressions of Interest from the private sector to initially investigate development opportunities on this site.”
“However, the Government is looking for a mix of tourism, commercial and residential development which takes into account the existing and future requirements of the commercial boat harbour,” he said.
The Expression of Interest process would ask interested parties to provide details of their design approach; outline the appropriate model for planning, delivery and tenure of the development; and submit a master plan that demonstrates the mix of tourism, commercial and residential land use.
Expressions of interest close at 2pm. (WST) Thursday August 27, 2009. To download a copy of the EOI visit: http://www.landcorp.com.au/project/carnarvonwaterfront

New jetty for Jurien Bay
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2009-07-15 11:51Construction of a new jetty at Jurien Bay could begin as early as next year after the State Government allocated funding towards the project.
The Government yesterday announced funding for more than 300 projects as part of the first round of the Royalties for Regions Grants Scheme.
The local community and Shire have been exploring ways to save the two wooden jetties, after the Department of Planning and Infrastructure planned to knock them down two years ago.
The Shire of Dandaragan has welcomed the $750,000 allocated for the Jurien Bay foreshore and jetty redevelopment.
Chief Executive Clinton Strugnell says the town’s jetties have a long tradition with tourism and recreation.
“They’re in the order of 40-years-old and certainly there’s a very strong association with Jurien Bay and the jetties,” he said.
“Certainly, the council and the community feel that the jetty here is very much recognised at Jurien and it’s important that we have one going into the future.
“It’s an area which is used for the community for large gatherings, for things like Australia day.
“There’s quite often bands in the park down there and going into the future, we see it as a key meeting place for community events.”

Sneak peek @ the Banax Kingpin 5000
Submitted by steveB on Wed, 2009-07-15 11:07
Banax have around 10 new models of reels coming out this season. Here's one you might be interested in.
The Kingpin has been designed by GLADIATOR for Australian condition with the help of input from tackle stores all over Aus. The reel has the banax HCS (hard core system) that makes these reels so tough. The HCS is the trilogy of precision machine cut brass gears, brass pinion and stainless steel shaft. The drag system is 6 part, incorporating 3 carbontex and 3 alloy washers giving 14kg of drag. There are 6 high grade stainless steel shielded German bearings, titanium spool lip. Full power metal body, rotor and spool to keep all internals straight when under load reducing wear on parts. The drag is water resistant and the reel carries a 5 year warranty on ALL parts. The reels are made in the Banax factory in Korea.
The reels will be realeased in September.
If you need any more info drop me a PM.
Cheers

fish and cricket
Submitted by Roger Knife on Mon, 2009-07-13 17:01Alright again
Went out again on sunday for the old mans birthday, and caught a few more fish.....! Trouble was we went to the pub for a quiet half saturday night, this turned into 6 pints and left us pissed and wondering what the morning will bring? We awoke at about 5 and got ourselves ready for the day. It was an hour and a half drive down and all the way we discussed the wind and conditions. Arriving nice and early on the boat we noticed the clouds break and the sun come out, although still blowing force 4 from the south west. We headed out in the lea of the shore and treid for a few mackeral for bait, they were small and hard to come by but eventually we got a few. We were after sea bream and fished a 3 hook dropper rig with worm and squid/mackeral as bait. It was hard going due to the boat going up and down but we were all catching.. Unfortunately only poor cod and pouting-rubbish fish-. After a move me and the old man started to catch bream and ended up with 3 each although one of mine was undersixe so went back. We also started catching dogfish and small bullhuss, all of which went back. We tried drift fishing for plaice and a managed a small but legal fish and took it back for the pot....my first plaice! We finished the day fishing close to the shore after getting beaten up by big waves and swell on the plaice grounds. Not a bad day all in all me and me dad did the best, as we fished light rigs with smaller hooks for better presentation, against the words of others but our method paid off, as noone else caught plaice or bream!! 2 weeks to go, i hope i leave the windy weather here!!!
HOW DID PANESAR AND ANDERSON NOT GET BOWLED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A DRAW IS LIKE A VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gulls awaiting the blood and guts!!!
Not massive but should still taste good.
Pan sized!!!
My first one!!!!

Kingfish makes epic swim to NZ
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2009-07-13 16:25A fish captured and tagged by a New South Wales far south coast fisherman three years ago has been recaptured after nearly doubling in size during a 2,000km swim.
State Primary Industries Recreational Fisheries Manager Phil Bolton says 30,000 yellowtail kingfish have been tagged since 1973.
But he says the recent catch is one of only three kingfish tagged in Australia to be recaptured near New Zealand.
"The yellowtail kingfish that was originally released at Eden was tagged by a chap called John Rankin, of Eden Sport and Game Fishing Club, and he recorded a length of 48cm," he said.
"It was re-caught this last summer off the north-east coast of New Zealand at a length of 90cm."
