JUNIOR LANDBASED FISHING COMPETITION
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2008-10-17 07:34Okay all you keen young Fishwrecked members, here is a competition for you.
Fishwrecked is putting up some great prizes for the winning entries in our new Landbased fishing competition for junior anglers.
Open to Fishwrecked members under the age of under 16, the competition will run through the month of November.
To be eligible for the prizes, junior members just need to produce a picture of a legal capture taken from the beach, rocks or marinas in the Perth metropolitan area.
A picture must be submitted showing the capturer with his fish at the beach, rocks or marina where the capture was made. Captures do not include sharks or rays.
First prize is a Make ProSpin Combo, featuring a 10 foot rod suitable for rock and beach fishing, with a matching spinning reel.
Second prize is a slightly used 10 foot Silstar Crystal Power Tip rod.
So come on all you young guys and girls, here is the opportunity to show us your fishing skills and to add to your fishing gear collections.

Ban delay "threatens"best fish
Submitted by diji on Fri, 2008-10-17 07:05Page 5 west australian
WA fishing industry council ceo Graeme Stewart said the commercial fishing industry had been subject to big restrictions already with further cuts due in january.
"It seems that only some parts of the WA community are serious about sustaining fish for the future,"he said
Well it seems to me that the fish are only vulnerable in the area's rec's fish now. what a load of bullshit i think the ban needs to be across the board?????

shellfish?
Submitted by schecky on Thu, 2008-10-16 18:50i might sound like an idiot asking this or explaining it but those little shellfish things you get on the rocks at marinas and stuff which you can pick off with an oyster knife....do they make decent bait?
sorry if i explained that badly, did my best haha

Blowie Plague
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2008-10-16 14:03Mate and I went for a fish/crab this morning HA HA big joke
Got a few undersize bream but for every one landed we got 2 blowies--not your piss ant little one but nor west buggers ,one after the other.About 20 of the pricks. We went to do the first pull of the nets--no bait, wires bitten through, rope with chunks out of them and holes in the nets.Usually we have a bit of a problem with tiger bities but nothing as bad as this.
Oh well ,if you don't have a go you'll never know----now we know

New rock based Rig
Submitted by Stev0 on Thu, 2008-10-16 11:19Hey guys, I'm heading up to False entrance late November for 10 days and was wanting to buy a new rig as my current tcurve wont cut it.
For the spinner I am looking at a Saltiga Blast with 30lb nitlon but i Cant decide what i want for the stick. I'm thinking of getting a custom 900L Calstar made up by Bluewater or going a bit cheaper and getting s shorespin (but their shitty blue color turns me way off). Does anyone have any suggestions for a suitable rig for up there?
Cheers,
Stevo.

Gamefishing Club Membership ?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2008-10-16 09:36G'day Crew,
Just wondering how many of you are gamefishing club members and which club you belong to? I was also wondering if theres any interest from people in joining a club in the future, people looking to getting into tagging billfish / sailfish etc and maybe entering comp's which require membership. I'm a member of Exmouth Game Fishing Club (EGFC) with membership up for renewal soon, just thought I'd see what the general consensus is about joining a club or if anyone's interested.
Cheers,
Adam

Xzoga loaded-up on a Sambo
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2008-10-15 11:11

The recent opportunity to visit the Key Biscayne with Simon C also gave me the opportunity to test out my new Xzoga PE4 jig rod. The rod handled fantastically well and I never felt like it was going to let me down. The two pics Simon snapped were when the fish was pretty much beaten. (How do you like my lip action LOL) All the best, Colin Hay

Help the new kid on the block.
Submitted by Liam the Fish on Wed, 2008-10-15 06:42Hey all,
I'm just looking for some tips and advice when fishing. I usually head down to Hillary's but never really catch much. So is there a certain location to go there? Or just go where ever you want? Also what sort of a rig should I use? and what sort of bait?
All help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Liam.

Redneck Quadder
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Tue, 2008-10-14 20:23If you look at my avatar you will start to picture this LOL.
I snuck out for a fish while everyone else was working. Headed for my fav spot between 2 rocks and Guilderton. On the way in I spot a single vehicle with trailor parked up. OK so we have a biker here. I mosey on down to my spot and head onto the beach. Dickhead me forgets to let tyres down and goes down!!!!!! FFS.... OK so it's time for the shovel. Just getting started and this dickhead on a quad rocks up. "so that's your car back there is it?" I say. "Yeah" he says. "I've been up and down for miles. Not a car here except you". "Looks like your in the shit" he says sitting happily on his quad. I look up and think "no! no time for snide remarks" and keep digging.
After a while I try to drive out. Wheels still spinning some so I get out and start digging again. This dickhead asks "do you have a mobile phone?". I say yes but there is no reception here. "Oh" he says. "Oh well" he says. "Not a lot I can do for you here" and fuggs off!@!!!!
Picture me. I had open heart surgery last year so I am not that fit. It's midday and probably 30 degrees there. Dig dig dig...... head is spinning and sweat pissing off me. Finally I manage to dig myself out. Rather than fish I though I best go check on this guy in case he is waiting to see if I come out. Not a fuggin sign of the jerk.
For all you young guys here never leave a scene like that without a strategy. The news the next day may well not be that good for the poor bastard you abandoned because you needed to go get a beer or whatever.
Don't anyone ask me how I went OK??? LOL

FUN IN THE SUN WITH B JOHN
Submitted by uncle on Sun, 2008-10-12 19:58Just reurned from 2 weeks in Onslow with Big John,we spent the first 3 days at Long Island with our crewie Timbo, boy it was rough, the wind got up to about 30 knots at night which blew sand everywhere, even blew over steel camping chairs, the biggest concern was for the boat on the mooring and getting buried by sand in the swags. the days were fishable with many good fish caught, spaniards, rankins, emporors etc,The skipper dived to get a supply of crays for tea.The beach was under siege from huge turtles laying their eggs, man does that look exhausting!
The next day was a lazy day down on the river where we caught 8 muddies for tea.
Then the weather changed for the better and we caught huge amounts of big Rankins and other cellar dwellers, many big spaniards on floaters and jigs [burley and they will come]queenies on poppers and jigs, mack tuna on jigs and slicers.
The last day was a red letter day where we found a patch of red heaven in 20 metres, big reds, coral trout, huge rankins on leadhead jigs and a few spaniards, finished of the day with a dive in pristine waters for crays.
The action hardly ever slowed and most fish were released to play another day.
The area hardly seems to have changed over the 20 years, one positve was the huge amount of Rankin cod that we caught and released.

200HP HO ETEC VS 200HP SUZUKI
Submitted by VAGABOND on Sun, 2008-10-12 07:20Looking at repowering the boat, would be interested if any has one to give me some info on how they are running, Fuel Economy, Reliability etc. The etec is about $2000 to $3000 less in price, also considering the 175hp Suzuki but it's only a 4cyl compared to the V6. Weight 175HP Suzuki 215kg, 200hp Suzuki 263kg and Etec 200hp HO 232kg.
