Black Bart VS Richter
Submitted by A-SALT-WEAPON on Tue, 2011-04-12 21:15Im about to invest in skirted lures. Im quite new to this style of fishing but enjoying the results and thrill of this game.
The two main lure styles i like are Black Bart and Richters.
Ive been doing a fair bit of reading on spread patterns, what size should go where and of course colours.
As both these brands are expensive id like to know peoples thoughts on which and if there is one better than the other.
Hard heads better than soft? Im really interested if the jetted lures are worth the investment (10inch)
Any thoughts welcomed

Hi There
Submitted by donlovesfishing on Tue, 2011-04-12 20:36Hi All
This is a fantastic site and the people seem great. I was wondering if anyone can help me, with a question:
I have a Furuno GP31 and have all these waypoints setup in there when i boat the gps, but am unable even with the assistance of the manual, to use the waypoint menu.
When i select a waypoint, i cant set it up, so i can go and the gps little ship to move around towards the target. I cant get my head around it all....Am i missing something? Please help????

nips tips on kallbarri please
Submitted by dannyboss on Tue, 2011-04-12 20:19i am goin to kalbarri in 2-3 weeks for a few days of fishing probably goin to go out on the boat 1 day but for the rest i will only be able to do landbased fishing so just a few questions.
in the river what species am i most likely to catch?
what strength line would be the best for lures up there or am i better off using a certain type of braid?
what are the best lures i should get before i go?
are soft plastics good to use? cause i have never used them so i will need to practice when i get up there aswell
and are lures or bait best to use
any help and tips would be much appreciated
thanks danny.

2011 - There still big bream in the swan river!!! I caught a 37cm last night!!!
Submitted by Banjobob on Tue, 2011-04-12 18:03I always thought the swan river was all fished out and there was nothing besides undersized bream. But I went to causeway the other night and caught a 37cm bream with mulie and gang hooks.
So I wanted to start a topic on who has caught big bream THIS YEAR 2011 in the Swan river to prove that there still is big bream in there.
Please post your photos and location and how you caught it.

Anyone able to sell or rent me a trailer to suit 17.5ft/5.5m boat?
Submitted by dkonig82 on Tue, 2011-04-12 10:15Sorry for the double post guys, but I am running out of time.
I use my boat nearly every weekend, but the trailer has a fair bit of rust in it in two places.
Have never done long distance (past two rocks) towing it, but am off to Exxy next weekend.
Have had the trailer looked at, and they advised against me taking it up there. Have been given a quote to repair it, but they cant do it before Exxy.
Has anyone got, or know of a trailer that I could buy (or rent) that would suit? It is a 17.5ft glass boat. If I was going to buy it, I would want something in pretty good nick.
Alternatively if you know of one that isn't getting any use that you would rent me for 8 days, that would be excellent. Happy to leave my trailer with whomever I rent the other one off.
Might be a long shot but worth a try!
Cheers

Stella SW20k handle on Sw10k reel
Submitted by JohnF on Mon, 2011-04-11 22:30OK punters
Have both Stella SW10,00 and SW20,000.........both sweet reels, the SW10,000 was perfect for Fiji GT popping and handled everything I threw at it on PE8 with a SOM 16,000 spool, and tne high speed was great for popping.
The SW20,000 really is a big beast only suited to the very biggest of fish. Put it to good use ona big YFT in Fiji, glad I had it, any other spin reel would have been pain after the tuna went deep (well, it was pain even with the 20k).
The 20k has been put to pasture until the next big OS trip as it is too big for anything metro (although it may get a gernsey this Friday out at the FADS/Derwent.....).
The 10k is much lighter and more comfortable and I (unlike many others) quite enjoy the higher speed for jigging, but the high speed makes life a bit hard retrieving deep divers when trolling and bullocking big fish when jigging.......so................my question, can I run the SW20k handle (which is 1 cm longer) on the SW10k reel to give it more cranking power.
Just tried it and it all looks and feels sweet..............is there any dramas and has anyone tried it (apart from putting extra stress on the 10k reel)?.
For me, this would be a very cheap alternative to a SOM handle.......

Pardoo
Submitted by pale ale on Mon, 2011-04-11 20:56My missus has organised a trip to Pardoo this weekend with her workmates. Sounds great, but I am the only dedicated fisherman. I beleive there is a creek with barra / jacks and beach fishing also. Can anyone please give a bit of advice, being neapish tides, should I take my tinnie and forget the beach fishing? I have all of the gear required, but a bit reluctant to take everything if it is not going to be used.
Thanks
Hope the threadies are going!!

GT KNOT
Submitted by beau on Mon, 2011-04-11 16:53Well Honsu showed me the GT knot the other day in the shop and hell if i can remember how to do it! I know alot of members use this knot for there bimini to leader connections, so i was just hoping someone could take the time to film themselves tying the knot and upload it to youtube or something. I cant find any videos on the net at all on how to do it, so maybe somebody knows where i can find it?? If there is one out there then it must be pretty hard to find because the same question is asked on alot of other forums, "How do i tie the GT knot."
Ive tried following Kasey L's image that he posted a couple years but found it difficult to follow.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEE

Sunday Sesh
Submitted by Mitch300491 on Mon, 2011-04-11 10:17Went out fishing yesterday for the Pirtek Challenge with the girlfriend, but with Salmon being the target didnt have much luck. Took my new inflatable boat out for a drive and went fishing in Cockburn Sound. Was a pretty wavey and windy day but we still managed to get a few small fish for the first time. Caught a few nice Tailor, Herring and some small snapper. There was two fish i caught but i dont exactly know what they were. I was thinking a Slimey Mackeral and maybe a Yellowtail??
Check out the pics below...
A little bait fish... that took a hook with no bait....
Overall was a nice little day of fishing. All fish released.

Dirk Hartog Island Fishing & Camping
Submitted by timboon on Sun, 2011-04-10 22:44Crew,
Planning a trip out to DHI in Julyish, I`ll be towing my 4.2 quinni dingi up to try and sample some of the goodness that i`ve heard is on offer out from the island.
As far as the camping goes i want access to the western side of the island to hunt baldies etc on the nicer days, I was thinking Withnel point or Dampiers Landing as I want to either moore or launch and retrieve the Dingi as easily as possible.
If the weather isnt so good then the likes of off Turtle bay or anywhere in the lee off the island protected from the south westerly could be good plan b`s.
Any advice on the camping aspect and also the fishing hows and the wheres would be great.
Cheers - Timboon....

Weekend Salmon and Squid.
Submitted by mallesh on Sun, 2011-04-10 21:33G'dy Fishos,
Left Perth on friday for my first salmon run down south.
Stopped in Bussleton for a quick squid session, caught 14 and a cuttle fish in less than 2 hours.
Fished friday evening at Hamelin bay, didnt see a school but a local fisho said there was a small school in the morning.
Went back early morning yesterday and had a cracking start to the season. Caught 4 and lost 2 behind the reef in less than an hour.
Commercial fisherman came from no where and netted half the school and the rest stopped biting and slowly moved towards north.
Nothing happened for rest of the day. Went back this morning and not even a small patch was seen. Easterly was blowing so decided to packup.
Back in Perth having salmon curry with steam rice.
Cheers

METRO GOLD PART II - IN SEARCH OF HOTDOGS FOOLS GOLD
Submitted by JohnF on Sun, 2011-04-10 20:20Well, me and Daz had another Metro troll session......trying to top the previous METRO GOLD session of maccies and YFT......Hotdogs bailed, some feeble excuse of being a sensible husband and father or something............
We all know how something like this ends.........................trolled for nearly 4 hours with a good spread of 4, over all our previously successful ground, and not a single touch....................I thought it was only fair to put up a post of the hard luck day to even out some of the previous posts we have put up where it all seemed peaches and cream..........it sure aint like that every session, thats for sure........
Fair bit of weed around and a distinct lack of bait balls compared with every other session we did last week......something has changed.
Is that the end of the Metro pelagics phenomenon.....I doubt it, but they sure weren't there this arvo.Anyone else have a go? We only saw two other boats out having a troll....in failry poor conditions.
Off to cook up some more chilli a dgarlic crusted yellowfin tuna on the BBQ.........it aint all bad.

swan river sesh
Submitted by aussie_breamer on Sun, 2011-04-10 18:41had a quick flick down the river yesterday afternoon.
flicked some minnows arround on the flats and worked some vibes and softplastics in the deeper water.
good results. nothing huge.
ended up with 5 bream, lots of herring, some trumpeter, two whiting and a nice flattie arround 50cm.
also got some rare southern blue nose bream... lol ;)
most the fish were coming from the flats.
got a couple of pics mucking arround with the camera.
for those who don't know, the bream turn a florescent blue colour arround the mouth and tail when they eat the mussels off he hull of a boat that is painted blue!!!!
the mussels absorb the blue and when the bream eat the mussels, they turn a cool blue colour.... so what i heard!! :)
cheers,
tom

New 4500 Saltiga
Submitted by Heinz on Sun, 2011-04-10 18:08Hey everyone,
I am looking for a new medium sized reel for some jigging, bottom bashing and something that could still cast well. Having a look around and being as a i almost always buy shimano gear i wanted to give the daiwa side of things another go.
The new Saltiga that Daiwa have just released caught my eye but wanted some opinions if anyone has used one or on similar reels in that range, before i splash over a grand on a new reel. i already have a Stella SW and i know they are great reels, but kind of wanted something different from my norm.
The link below is from a website where someone has ripped a saltiga apart and really given it a proper review, and it looks as tho some things in this reel don't quite cut the mustard.
http://www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/showthread.php?t=768370
Any opinions or suggestions would be great!

Finally found the one
Submitted by Mark M on Sun, 2011-04-10 17:54Hi All
Just had to share my good news. After months of looking have finally found a great boat to get out amongst some good fish (hopefully)and great relaxation on the water. It is a 2006 7 mtr Whittley Sea Legend with a 225 Suzuki on the back which pushes her along very nicely. The missus is happy (believe it or not) as well with the toilet, so hopefully will have some good times ahead. Hope to see some of you out on the water.Below are a couple of photos hopefully plenty more fishing photos to follow in the future.
Cheers
