new/ second hand boat recommendation
Submitted by Gaffatron on Sun, 2025-03-16 20:41hi guys,
I have been doing alot of reading and only being fed (what i feel) is sales pitches on what is the best boat for fishing/ family from the supplier/ boat yard websites etc.
in your opinion, if i were looking to spend around the $150k mark what would be a; no brainer - a no go - or an option to look at for a new or fairly new second hand boat?
ideally a hard top would be nice, soft top at minimum. i like the look of the yellow fin (not sure on ride quality) and Mclay boats...
any and all input would be much appreciated
thanks!

Seasonal dhuey/baldie migration patterns
Submitted by beeroclock on Thu, 2025-03-13 09:21We all know that pinkies tend to be out deep in summer months then come winter storms they move inshore. Just wondering if dhueys/ baldies are known to have a seasonal migration pattern? Ive got a week long boys trip mid April off jurien bay coming up. Just wondering whether wei should hit up spots in the 80 odd metre depths or 30 - 50m depths to target the larger dhueys off Jurien. Thanks ahead for any tips!

Gps accuracy
Submitted by Bodgy 79 on Sat, 2025-03-08 10:17 Gday all, just seeking info on external gps antennas.
Using a hds 12 just for a plotter that is flush mounted in a plate cuddy cab with soft top & clears.it's a new unit and doesn't drop out with sats but the waypoint I'm trying to line up for a fish seems to bounce around alot as soon as its zoomed in to about 20m or less.Is this just processing a bit slow because of its mounting and would an external antenna help this and become more accurate?
cheers

Uniden 27mhz fault.
Submitted by Roughas on Tue, 2025-03-04 17:46G'day all. My 27mhz has taken to beeping and has a flashing screen. In addition, when ptt is pressed the screen goes completely blank, but recovers if I hold it down. Plenty of clean power to the unit, and it's not that old. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, John.

PGFC Marlin Cup
Submitted by davewillo on Fri, 2025-02-21 11:17Not sure if anyone here fished the cup last weekend, but the stats were incredible. 66 marlin raised, 39 hooked and 13 tagged. Those are crazy metro numbers. There have been whole seasons where a fraction of those numbers are reported. Must be the warm water this year.

Esperance Fishing
Submitted by Rick on Sun, 2025-02-16 17:35Hi all
Heading down to Esperance for 5 nights. Never beach fished down that way. Anyone have any pointers. Just chasing some whiting or squid for a fresh feed. Salmon if they are around.
Have a 4wd drive, happy to travel around, if there are places worth a look. Cheers

Deep water prawns in WA
Submitted by Alan James on Fri, 2025-02-07 11:54Has anyone dabbled or know of others who may have dabbled catching deep water prawns in WA?
After failed attempts at catching painted crays in pots in Vanuatu my Kiwi / Vanuatu mate converted the pots to deep water prawn pots with some success. Depths of 400m - 450m proved more successful than sub 350m. After some early hiccups catches were around 2.5 - 3kg of prawns per pot. The pic below is one very pleased neighbour.

Carnarvon Talapia
Submitted by Yewiefish85 on Fri, 2025-02-07 08:44Hi Guys, I have asked this question previously but thought I would try again, next week I will be passing through Carnarvon and staying a couple of nights, I was wondering if anyone was able to tell me a spot that is safe for kids to try to catch some talapia, growing up in the Pilbara my kids know the fish we get up home but I want to educate / show them about invasive species and figured talapia should be an easy one to show them, last time I tried was at Chinamen pool but the grass was really overgrown so I am a bit concerned taking the kids there due to snakes, any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers Yewie

First great white
Submitted by wifecallsmegrumpy on Mon, 2025-02-03 14:38
Hi All, I have returned to work after an epic 5 weeks on holidays.. anyway during a fishing trip last week about 5km just North of Rotto I got to see my first great white. We were fishing in 40mtrs of water and not having a lot of luck when my fishing buddy pulled in a small baldie. Whilst we were getting it in I look over the starboard side and this great white just appeared out of the depths, cruising alongside of the boat and eyeballing me in the boat as some sort of out of reach appetizer. It disapeared straight back into the depths just as quickly and wasn't sighted again. It's been on my bucket list to see one in the wild whilst out fishing and whilst a short encounter it was awesome to see. I'd estimate it to be 2.5-3 mtrs, so no monster, but as it was a 40Deg day a quick dip off the back of the boat was ruled out fairly quickly.
We didn't bother dropping down in that spot again and moved on. Not a lot of luck that trip in anycase.
Just wanted to share. We see Bronzies almost every cray run, this was no bronzie !
As we took my mates boat I was hoping it would have a bit of a chew on the motor as I have seen them do in the media... but it just buggered off.
My first sighting in 10 years of WA fishing. Do you guys see them often ?
