Going to Exmouth for work!
Submitted by Auslobster on Fri, 2010-04-23 19:42While every other mongrel on here is going up there for holidays I'm going up to remove asbestos. Never been, don't know if I'll have time for a proper fish. Looking at Google maps the marina appears to be a handy little destination to get a couple of casts in after work. Love to use lures, particularly soft plastics....anybody have any sort of experience up there doing this?
Hoping to go a little further afield but just don't know how much time I'll have, any help will be appreciated. Oh, and if anybody's up there with a boat at that time (yeah YOU Jamie) I don't get seasick, won't drink all your piss, and I give all my fish away! And I won't call you a mongrel again!

Long Weekend Kalbarri
Submitted by doug on Thu, 2010-04-22 18:42Hey guys heading up to Kalbarri for the long weekend and noticed the swell will be up. Can anyone suggest any spots that aren't too affected by big swells? ATM have Witecarra as our main fishing location but I think it can get tricky with bigger swells.

goldcoast fishing charter NO GOOD
Submitted by drew_ward on Wed, 2010-04-21 21:57Was recently on a holiday in surfers paradise, decided to go on a fishing charter(gone fishing).wasnt too bad could of been much better...all 12 of us were bottom bouncing while the 2 deckies were ballooning for mackerel and once hooked up they would pass the rod to the customers and by then the fish was pretty much worn out(not fishing i recon)i was the only 1 to get an actuall fish from the bottom which was a nice cobia..all the fish being caught were killed and kept..when i landed my fish i asked can i release it and he laughed in my face..i said i can have much more satisfaction releasing a fish then eating it and he laughed and offered it to the rest of the people on the boat and every1 put their hand up to take it...no wonder their charter isnt the greatest coz they are keeping every fish they land. fish for the future and not your stomach i recon. i'd hate for myself to have a son and not for him to be able to catch a decent fish

Mid-range 10kg rod for trolling and ballooning
Submitted by WODF on Wed, 2010-04-21 19:24After opinions on a rod around the $350 mark for trolling and ballooning running 10kg. I've settled on a tyrnos 20 over a TLD for the reel but undecided on either a single or two speed model (help). I'd like the rod to be between 5'6 and 6' and use runners only but will consider roller tip if someone can convince me. I've read back through some older topics and have noticed some problems with some live fibres which was what I was considering (stroker series) so any feedback would be great. Will hopefully be giving the outfit a good run during Carnarfin at the end of May and during the Broome Billfish Classic in July.
Cheers,
Damien

Shimano T Curve Barra Flats 782
Submitted by Matt Latham on Wed, 2010-04-21 09:17Hi Everyone,
I am new to the Fishwrecked Forum but have enjoyed reading all the posts about the great fishing in WA.
I am looking at buying a new medium spinning rod and reel combo. This combo would be used for both shore and boat fishing and fished to max PE3. After researching a number of models and manufacturers I have settled on a T Curve Barra Flats 782 with a Twin Power 5000. However I am keen to hear others reports on both the rod and reel as well as recommendations for similar equipment.
Cheers,
Matt

27 mhz or vhf
Submitted by grayzeee on Tue, 2010-04-20 16:36my current 27 mhz radio seems to be picking up other peoples transmissions but i'm not able to transmit
everything seems to be working fine . just nobody can hear me. radio not that old and new arial has been fitted.
any ideas to what the prob may be?? lead seems ok.
also looking in case it needs replacing , the vhf has transmit power of 25 watts while 27 mhz is only 4. surely this makes a difference in range although i've been told they have same range
is the vhf worth the arse ache of doing the licence??

Fishing ATM on triangulation and spots I know. Obviously not the coolest.
