help me

ok im in tassy and there is this stream that i was fishing today.  i was using halco scorpions in every colour.  i tried and tried i could see the trout swimming then once they saw me they would swim off. now i had my lure in front of this fish which looked at it but didnt attack.  it just swam slowly away.  now how can i catch these critters.  it would make my day.  theyre big too.

Lures should work...

...but sometimes you have to be creative. Simply casting and retrieving a bibbed lure like a scorpion can be a waste of time. Work it slowly past the fish, giving the rod a twitch, trying to imitate a helpless, wounded prey item. Or try a lightly weighted (or no-weighted) soft plastic like a gulp or a powerbait in natural colours and use the same irregular, jerky retrieve. Of course, it helps to have graphite rods and braided line (with a flourocarbon leader) in this situations. You'll have much more control over the lure and the line will be less visible to the fish.

There are also a lot of spinners, (lures with revolving blades), on the market that are specifically designed for trout. With these you would gently lift the rod tip and drop it quickly, letting the lure rise and fall.
