RST

Well I finally got time to do my Skippers ticket and I must say that I picked up on some new information which will help with the boating pleasure even more. For those NOR who are yet to obtain their RST I would highly recommend the Whitfords Sea Rescue team. I chose to do the complete 2 day training course which cost a small sum of $240.00 and am now a lot more wiser for it. Apart from having a great weekend on the course you can be proud to say that the funds go back into the Whifords Sea Rescue and who knows I may need to call on them some day. Almost forgot to add that the Sea Rescue people are all volunteers so thanks guys and girls for your efforts into making our waters safer for all.

P.S. Yes I passed

Cheers

Native fish

Does any body know where I can get , murry cod , yellow belly or Aust Bass from , prefer north of river  .

I want to put some in a tank , our gold fish died after we put a new fish in that had a disease and the other fish died within 5 days of the new fish being introduced .

I would love a murry cod or Bass in the tank just to see how they hunt and feed .

Salmon movements

I am wondering if anyone has any authentic words on the salmon action down south. I have heard and read mixed reports with some suggesting that there is no action and others suggesting the opposite.
I am heading down Smith's Beach/Yallingup on Thursday so I am hoping that there may been some salmon seen around the area recently - or even better - heading that way.
Many thanks, Colin Hay

Esperance over Easter

Gday all,

I'm heading to Esperance for the long weekend and was wondering if anyone knew what I might be able to get down there?

Reckon salmon will be floating around down there or will all be gone north?

Any suggestions on what beaches to try would be great, got a 4WD while im down there and a few quad bikes so no real restrictions on where to go Wink

Thanks in advance!

Fisherman bashed

A 24-year-old fisherman remains in a serious condition in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after he was bashed at a beach near Perth yesterday.

Police say he was hit over the head with a torch after a fight broke out with another man during a camping trip near the Alkimos wreck.

A 25-year-old man from Craigie has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and will appear in court on Wednesday.

Sergeant Nick Steel says the victim faces a long recovery period.

"He still has extensive fractures to the face, including a broken jaw, several fractures around his upper head, one near his eye socket on the right hand side that's caused bruising and bleeding around the brain," he said.

Sergeant Steel says the man was on the phone to his wife just moments before the bashing and she called police for help.

"The lady's heard some of the commotion, heard some groaning and called the police straight away so it was very lucky that he happened to be talking to her on the phone at the time and our response was a little bit quicker.

Dinghy fishing in the Pilbara

Gday guys just wondering what the inshore fishing is like in the Karratha area? I'm moving up to Tom Price soon from Esperance, and will be hitting the coast for a fish as often as I can and was wondering if it was worth bringing my 375 rooftopper or is most of the better fishing done offshore in decent boats?

Pilbara Brad and Jay Burgess, you blokes would be in the know?

 Cheers for any help

cheap reels

I was just looking on a fishing site that sells gear from over in japan and singapore they are selling stella 20000 for only $650 do you think that they would be damaged or just cheap rip offs of the reel and it makes you think is it worth spending the proper amount and at least you know what you are getting because how can they afford to sell things half the price of everone else and still make a profit from selling the product is it really worth it and has anyone brought from a site like this?

Hillarys

headed down to the north wall of hillarys for an efternoon/evening session and ended up staying till 11 o'clock! caught 1 butterfish that engulfed the hook right ino its gullet so we had to snap its neck and get the hook out.
thats all the action we had for a number of hours but when i went for a walk upto the lighthouse, i saw these guys bringing in herring and yellowtail consistently with every cast! we only had the alvey out at the time so i decided to have a few casts and try to get me some herring and yellowies. 10 casts later i didnt have a set of gangs left on my rig!
met up with kaitan and he mentioned he might be going to the other side

Wasting food!!

Last night headed down to hilaries, thinking of going squiding and crabbing. When I arrive, it was crowded!!!! and on the jetty on the left side, as I walk down the steps....I saw a sambo and 3 red snappers was eaten!! clean on 1 side it's body....My thinking is that people went out on the charter and came back with the fish and decided that they didnt want it so they throw the fish back when it's dead. Anyone have any opinion about this?

Resizing Images and Photo's

Thought i'd let you know a really easy tool to resize photo's for posting.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx (Image Resizer - 11th one down on the right hand side)

Image Resizer is fantastic, once installed all you do is right click on a photo and "resize picture".

A screen will come up asking what size you want or enter a custom size (type in 500x500 for fishwrecked) and click ok and it's done. It will appear after a few moments next to the original image.

Maybe someone else can now post how to upload to fishwrecked as i'm only new to this site and may not be doing it properly

freo

i have been doing quite a bit of fishing around the traffic bridge in freo laterly, getting a few here and there but the reason why i love going down there so much is that there is always somethign differant down there or a new fish that i havnt caught there before! last night i was down there and as i was walking up 2 the car i was very suprised to see some guy about to go diving in the middle of the night by himslef under the bridge, and you all know how strong the current is there my mate and i couldnt even get our size 6 leads down to the bottem! CRAZY in my oppinion

Question about cray boats and ocy

Just a question. Are the Cray boats still allowed to bring ocy into shore as this is a bye catch my understanding of the new law is no they can't.
I was talking to my uncle last night whose brother is a Cray fisherman and he was unclear on it. he was also warned on Saturday night while they were sitting on there boat having a few drinks his 10 year old son was fishing for herring and was cautioned by fisheries that his grandson could not have a line in the water from the boat $5000 fine if enforced but he could stand on the jetty next to the boat

Best times for heading north

Hopefully going up to the monte's this year, just wanting to know what the best times in the year are for fishing/weather.

Want to target Pelagics and bottom fish.

Pesky dolphin

Decided at the last moment to go for a quick fish down off the north wall of Hillarys last night. Arrived just on sunset and after setting up two rods, one with a shimano baitcaster chasing something sizeable and the other with a stradic to cat out unweighted mulies, I went to work trying to burley up some action.
After about an hour of not getting any decent bites, the burley really started to come into affect and I had a good school of bait fish working virtually at my feet.
The hunters soon arrived and I soon caught a couple of tailor - too small to keep unfortunately. But I could see some larger fish dashing about in the outer shadows.
Just when I was thinking all my hard work was about to pay off, along came a dolphin - which proceeded to rip through the bait school and move everything off.
It took me another hour and the rest of my burley to get something happening again - and the cheeky bugger came along and did the same thing.
I am sure it was having a great laugh at my expense.

It was still a very beautiful night and it was good to see that there was a lot of bait fish around.
I will take a camera down next time and catch that dolphin in action.
All the best, Colin Hay

Unusual tides

Gents,

Can anyone tell me about the tides on the 3rd March, they were weird in that the tides up in the Pilbara were like one hour apart and no change in height, Derby had 6 changes in the tides during 24 hours, the last ones were only an hour apart and no signifigant change.

It's the first time I've noticed tides like these.

Cheers,
Dan.

Exmouth 08

Well that time is coming up again,

In less than 1 month I will be off to the lovely Exmouth for the annual 2 week trip with Jay, Ewan and hopefully Dazza.
The aim this year is for bigger and better footage and photos as last year was a bit of a downer in that respect. A few billies wouldnt go astray either so Ads - get onto it mate and suss those buggers out would you.

Anyone else up there at that time? (from 4th April for 2 weeks)

Cheers

Gully
