What do you want to see?

Righteo guys, for this weekend we have an underwater tow camera, 2 u/w vid cams, 1 u/w camera, 2 digi slr's, 1 high def vid cam and one standard vid cam.  What would you guys like to see??  We also have dive tanks and plan to do a trout bombie dive?  Will be a while before all the footage and photos are compiled etc, but is there anything you want to see more than anything else or would even pay to see on a dvd at high quality?

Cheers,

Adam

Sargent Bakers

Has anybody tried eating Sargent Bakers?

We got a heap yesterday and some of them were real hooters. A few got cut up for bait and the flesh was nice and white which would suggest that they would taste OK

Cheers Steve

Ocean Mulloway

With fear of looking like an idiot (that's not hard!) I want to ask a question that's been on my mind...

Where are all the Ocean/Sea Mulloway?

What I mean is... you catch them along the beach and off the jetty's (from the 'side'), but why have I never caught one, or seen one caught from a boat out in the deep?

I've only ever heard of one guy catching them on a charter once...

So, are they caught out in the deep? Approx where? How/Technique? (Anything special) When?

cheers,
damo

Sunday 20th July - Mindaire

Thought I would post up a report from a trip out of Mindaire yesterday.

Conditions were nice once the reef lines were negotiated, there were some big breaklers due to the size of the swell.

Fished in 30-40 m for little result  apart from a batch of Sgt Bakers, "Scorpion fish" and an undersized Pinkie. Dropped a couple of nice fish, interestingly they both hooked up on the small hook on the bottom dropper.

Ended up anchoring on a patch and continued with assorted bottom fish of no real value. I ended up putting on one of the Taikabura jigs and then "magic" caught 6 fish in six drops with the jig. Ended up keeping 1 x baldie, 1 x pinkie, 1 x Harlequin, 1 x Queenie and a huge cuttle fish. They were all taken on the jig, my deckie fishing with bait just kept the stingrays busy. I was amazed by how effective the jig was.

Anyone else had similar success with the Taikabura jig? I was using the Ockta type in the pink/white colour.

p.s. Does any one have a picture of a Foxfish they could post, I reckon we might have got one of these as well but we were unsure so threw it back.

Cheers Steve

heading offshore from Hillaries on Monday

Well, my mate and I are heading out tomorrow for more adventures.  I'd like to hear from anyone who was off shore today about what's biting where.  Not specific spots...but inshore/offshore, depth etc.

Latest I've heard is that dhuies and pinky's are a go from 20-30meters....is that right??  Might also have a go at finding some big skippy inshore.

Let me hear your recommendations!  I can use all the advice you've got.

Flatrocks

Unclestu and i headed out to search for flatrocks this morning ... at around 6am we took off and from some brief instructions on how to get there from Spess we got lost in a matter of 20 minutes haha.

After about an hour of 4wding through the bush (mind you was fun!) we eventually found the coast .. Spess we went too far north and missed the first turn-off .. We came across a few different beautiful beaches that looked (groan!!) oh so fishy, and a few different people telling us which way to head but all we wanted to find was the flatrocks location and use my bag of mulies.

We stopped at about 3 beaches which had that reef formation you can see in Google Earth but we weren't sure which one actually was flatrocks as i said we headed too far north ...

So we stopped and had a fish at a reefy part with a very strong current going from left to right and the water was fairly deep just out in front of us, it was about 2-3km from Two Rocks. After about 20 minutes (and about 5 lost mulies because im an idiot and didnt really know how to rig them on properly, i do now) a big school of solid tailor came swimming across and i managed to hook one, it was the best feeling, feeling it take some line and shake its head and the sway of the rod i couldnt believe it ...

... Well because i have s**t fishing line on my reel (forgot to put my good line i bought last night on) just as i was bringing the fish up to me in a wave, the knot came loose and the fish was there right in front of me and i should have ran and dived into the wave to grab it but i didnt think quick enough and it was gone!!! Meanwhile a bloke next to me had one on as well and he managed to land it, it went 45cm and i would say mine would of been about 40cm, Unclestu got nothing lol! Unlucky ...

From seeing what i saw today i can honestly say this flatrocks trip is gonna be awesome and thanks to Unclestu for taking me out today!

Biggest State and National Black Bream?

With the bream comp on, I was wondering if anyone knew what the longest, as oppossed to the heaviest (yes, I know they are related) rcord state and national black bream is. I had a look at various websites, but they tended (as is, I suppose the std) to record weight, but no length.

Was just curious. I know there's been plenty caught around the 40cm plus mark by Deacon etc in the Kalgan and other surrounding waters.

EOI - Mindarie Night Fish

Expression Of Intrest

That Time of year again, So will see if we can organise a mindarie night fish like last year, hopefully this one will go ahead!

Every skipper makes there own decision as to whether the conditions are safe and acceptable.

This basically gives people the opportunity to pair up if they want to, or fish solo. But have piece of mind if something goes wrong you can jump on the radio if you get in trouble. Personally I think it would be better to pair up or go in groups for saftey reasons.

Plan - leave mindarie boat ramp at 5pm and return by 12pm

Any oppinions please reply

Cheers
