Mullaway and sand?
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Wed, 2008-07-30 10:48Question gang?
Something that's been bugging me for years on and off, and I finally recalled it whilst I was in here, so I'll pop the question:
Many years ago, my twin brother caught a mulla in shark bay somewhere, shore fishing.
He froze it and brought it home.
When we defosted it and prepared the fillet pieces, we noticed that there was sand right through the flesh - not just inside the sales, or just beneath the skin, but deep down and right through the flesh.
Any theories, thoughts, explanations why this would occur?

I am after some info and help as to where i can get me a feed of (big) taylor.
I live in Rockingham and have a boat. I used to get a few by the grain terminal

of beaches up around long point and port kennedy but only ever get the smaller ones.
I usally use a gang with whole mulies or a lure.
I would prefer to get them from the boat though.
Can anyone give me a hand at all?

Safety Bay and surrounds?
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 2008-07-28 12:35Hi all,
Just arrived in Safety Bay a few weeks ago, settled the family and started working to buy some new fishing equipment.
Just completed a quick refurb on a 18ft Guardian half cabin, aquired a few rods and ready to fish.......when the rain stops.
Tested the boat - all okay now and staying a few hundred metres from the slipway, ready to go....
Where should I avoid and where can I get some of the beautiful specimens I see you guys catching?
What bait is good and where do I start....
Any tips will be greatly appreciated..
Regards
Dave

Baldchin vs Tuskfish
Submitted by 7739ian on Mon, 2008-07-28 08:10can you experienced fish finders point out the obvious differences between Tuskfish and juvenile Baldys. Last year at Shark Bay we threw back heaps of nice fish because a local expert told us they were juvenile Baldies. On our second last day we were told from description to a local pro that they were actually Tuskfish. I have looked at Feral's photo and the teeth look the same - but so does a Tuskfish on a web photo. Any obvious differences as i can't afford any mor fines this year - haven't been fined for fish naughties, just tree removal.

soft plastics are definatley the go for exmouth
Submitted by jack135 on Fri, 2008-07-25 19:21last school holidays i was in cape range natinal park exmouth every day my morning consisted of waking up and going fishing i used soft plastics to see if what i had been told was true it was 1st cast on a gold atomic a trevelly .and then i had gone to a gulp 1 intch pogey minnow i found a piece of structure only got charlie caughts.so i put a new pogey on and found some brocken ground 1st cast 45cm sweetlips and then i thiught i had to go back and have break fast .rhis is what happend most days i would walk from kurrajong camp to pilgramanna casting softies into any structure i saw 9 times out of ten i would get a hit or if the tides were high i would walk from kurrajong to bloodwood creek same same .i think that the key to useing soft plastics in exmouth is to just keep em moving the fish just cant resist the temptation .nuclear chicken gulp and gulp pogey minnows are great and and squidgies and also gold atomic soft plastics were great especialy for treveley.

Hillarys skippy
Submitted by tommo77 on Fri, 2008-07-25 12:45Went down to Hillarys for a fish yesterday at my little 'secret spot' and i chucked a mulie in just in front of me as i saw some monster skippy or buff bream just guarding their territory as they were swimming backwards and forwards between rocks, just as i was swaying it around for the blowies to chase they got scared off and suddenly a massive school of skippy came out from the water ranging in sizes from about 10cm to 20cm there must of been hundreds of them ... skippy populations are in good numbers there.
Has anyone had any luck there lately? I had no luck there yesterday on a weighted mulie besides one hit ...

NAVMAN USER CARD
Submitted by VAGABOND on Fri, 2008-07-25 09:39Having trouble finding someone that stocks user card for Navman GPS, you can take your map card out and put a data card in and store your data waypoints etc. I've been told you can use a flash card to do the same thing? Anybody have an info on this?
I keep a record of my GPS spots, but if my GPS does go bang at least It would be easy to transfer with a card rather than maually.
Thanks Jason.

Idea for New Forum
Submitted by eddie on Thu, 2008-07-24 10:28I guess this is mainly to Adam, but I'd love to hear what the rest of you think.
There are so many great, knowledgable fishos on here with awesome tips, but they are kinda spread all over. I was thinking that it would be cool to have a new forum just for fishing tips. To keep it organized, maybe it would be best for only Adam or a few people to be able to add topics, then everyone else could leave tips for any of the topics.
I know for me this would be an awesome resource! and might be a bit more organized than the general discussion forum.
Possible topics could be things like:
Dhufish, Pinkies, Spaniards, Billies, Finding New Ground, One for each Metro Season (Spring, Summer, Winter, Autumn), Special Rigs, Using Your Depth Sounder, Albany, Busso, Exmouth, Broome and so on.
We could encourage people to restrict their comments to giving tips, and not get off topic. People could even copy great tips, like some of the recent ones about using Sgt Bakers for Dhuie bait, into the appropriate topic hear.
What do you reckon??
