Christmas Cactus
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Sat, 2011-12-24 09:22Not fishing related but I thought the nature lovers would like this.
The cactus straddles our fence on both sides so the neighbours get their own dislay also. The plant flowers annually and the flowers only come out for about 24 hours. It's timed things well this year for Xmas. It always amazes me when it flowers.

Screw driver for 2010 Daiwa Certate bail-arm roller screw
Submitted by Uluabuster on Fri, 2011-12-23 21:58Hi,
I was trying to clean the bail-arm roller of my Daiwa Certate 3000 (2010 model) and realise it has a screw with star cross-section. Does anyone know where I can get a screw driver for this kind of screw ?
My line roller is squeaking whenever I run a line through it under pressure. Think the roller bearing is stuffed. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement bearing ?
Thanks for your help.

Abrasive resistant line
Submitted by Ric on Fri, 2011-12-23 21:39Hi all, not much of a poster however I read a lot on here,
I have a question if some one can give me advice ?
I work with a bloke that uses gillmaster mono, for land base up north, and highly recommends it for its abrasive resistance on rocks etc, I tried to find where to get it and apparently the joint in mandurah has gone bust and closed down, so my question is does anyone know any good reef resistant mono and where I mite get some ????

Reel for salty fighter PE 0.8-2
Submitted by Rig on Fri, 2011-12-23 11:32Hi Guys I am looking for a nice light spin reel to match my salty fighter PE 0.8 - 2.
I use it for some light soft plastic work for demersals and whiting fishing up to around the 50m mark.
I will probably spool with 30lb braid and looking to spend probably no more than $250

Mandurah Offshore
Submitted by randall df223 on Fri, 2011-12-23 07:06I have read somewhere else on the forum that a good starting point is about 8 nm sw of the Cut. Can anyone tell me what distance / direction and what water depth the professional cray pots are in at the moment off Mandurah? Going there after Xmas and don't have any points at all. Hoping to find a spot or two this time. Also, I know the Bouvard Reef is marked on the smaller charts, but they're not marked on my larger scale chart. I don't necessarily want anyone to give up any spots around there, but can someone give the co-ords and soundings for the reef off their chart or GPS maps? (I only use a small Garmin Etrex without the charts). Once I get to the reef, I am happy to sound out some spots myself.
Thanks

Andriod Navionics app
Submitted by tim-o on Thu, 2011-12-22 21:46Anyone else downloaded it, 16 bucks and it looks ok, seems like you can track, Iv searched the maps and set some points on the map, guna see how it goes and compare location (depths) with the sounder. Has anyone else got any experience with it, got to be comparable to the cost of a nav card and gps these days.

which are the 6%
Submitted by bod on Thu, 2011-12-22 16:43The Department‘s State of the Fisheries Report 2010-11 revealed that 94 per cent of the State’s fisheries are being managed in a sustainable manner. No additional management measures are required in those fisheries to maintain acceptable breeding stock levels. This compares extremely favourably to other fisheries in the world.
The Department is actively developing management strategies to ensure the remaining six per cent of fisheries also become fully sustainable.
The State of the Fisheries report reflects that Western Australian’s sustainable fisheries management program is backed by world-class research.
In addition, to the State of the Fisheries report, recently published results of a five-year joint study by the Department of Fisheries and Murdoch University, showed that fishing activity is having no negative impact on the aquatic food chain in Western Australian waters – a barometer of fisheries health and the environmental effectiveness of fisheries management.

Tips for 1st Time Boatie off Warnbro
Submitted by TGMitchell on Wed, 2011-12-21 23:29Hey Guys (and Gals)
I've just bought my first boat (17ft Fibreglass, 90Hp outboard) and I'm looking for tips and ideas for what to fish for and how to fish for it from Warnbro (Safety Bay ramp).
I've been out a few times and got some nice school whiting, a hammerhead and some pesky wrasse. I've got a couple of Craypots around the 5 fathom Dropoff.
Being a kiwi (we catch snapper with bait off the rocks - in the right places ...) and hardly having being out on boats - I'm a bit lost about how to fish in the big water.
Not up to going 30km out yet but keen on getting some bigger fish or decent amounts of eat-worthy smaller stuff when I take my boys out. Would be more keen on pelagic than demersal - but not too fussy really.
Ideas and tips greatly appeciated
Cheers
Tim

River fun
Submitted by Markie on Wed, 2011-12-21 20:19Took three mates out on the river this morning. Took offff from the boat ramp and chucked three lures straight away and within thirty seconds allll three went down. It kept going like this until we got bored of them releasing most and keeping couple each. Lots of just sized tailor but none over 35cm. Took offff to catch some crabs and ended up getting
our twenty in quick time. There still not huge yet but some were quite decent. Yummy dinner tonight.
