Rod to match a Saltiga 20.
Submitted by byrnedog on Tue, 2011-12-27 12:16Hi Guys,
I'm chasing some advice on what would be a good match to a Saltiga 20 reel.
I'm wanting to use it mainly for bottom bouncing and jigging. Something mid range, with a bit of bend to it. I'll be using 30 pound braid.
Cheers.

Just a quick question.
Submitted by troy fuller on Mon, 2011-12-26 19:50Down at my local lake there is thousands of these little fish i have been catching for my barras, thought they were tadpoles but got them home and they look exactly like baby guppies
question is, can guppies survive in a lake or would it get too cold? or is it some sort of other feeder fish, will try get a photo of them to post up.

what's the first thing you do?
Submitted by Jeffree on Mon, 2011-12-26 15:08Whats the first thing you do when u visit fishwrecked.com. As in what section do you visit first, and what do you do after?
Im creating this thread so that people can share what they find interesting about the site, and visit different sections that they would normally miss. Because i know that i only click on a certian few sections and hardy ever visit others.
This is my "routine"
1. Read the "new forum topics" on the right hand side under "tackle bag"
2. Go to buy sell swap section
3. Latest image
4. go into forums and browse through the first 3 forums.

any one else seen them???
Submitted by aussie_breamer on Mon, 2011-12-26 13:16Went down for a flattie fish around Claremont this morning and pulled 8 flatties but all pretty small....
BUT as we were fishing, a school of bright orange fish swam past?? the school was only about 2 square meters but they were bright orange, looked like small carp or goldfish???
this is the second time i have seen this school of orange fish in the past month, last time was around point roe.....
Has anyone else seen these fish?
they do look like they have been introduced or something and could possibly cause some harm to native fish in the swan??
cheers, Tom.

Reel Problems
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Mon, 2011-12-26 08:57Hi Guys
Got a new Penn Jigmaster rod and reel combo for christmas from BCF, was about to put line on it but i noticed it has no guide to spread it evenly on the reel- just 3 holes as shown in the picture below.
When i fed line through the middle hole it just piled up on itself.
Am I meant to feed it through the 3 holes? There were no parts that came with it
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
Ben

First rod build
Submitted by Bunny on Sun, 2011-12-25 13:36Well I finally finished my first rod. It's an old stripped down one so the reel seat and grips are still the original. The guides and binding is what's new. I reckon this rod is worth a pretty penny as it's the perfect rod to take to rod building classes to show "What not to do" .
I had no directions or anything with this so started with just a picture or two and that was the first of about 17 stupid mistakes I also had a crack at Abalone . Boy that stuff is tough to work with.
I was pretty happy with the diamond except I squashed it, got that sorted now.
I also heard that double overbinding in A thread is a good way instead of D and since I didn't even have any D I had no choice. I won't be doing that again......ever. Mind you most of the work was when the kids went to bed and the light was not too good.
I didn't know you had to file the guide feet which was stupid mistake number 15. Imagine trying to get A thread over the top of an unfiled cheap guide in poor light? You can imagine the results.
All in all though I learnt a lot including a good epoxy job hides such poor work and the result actually came up not too bad in the end. The Abalone in particular ended up looking pretty good even though it was cracked to the #$%&.
I've since done another rod with my brother and the results are 100% on this one and I'm in the middle of a couple more including one I'm trying dragon scales on. Boy this is addictive
Thread was Prowrap and guides were some cheap things from Jaws that look quite good and have SIC rings to boot

Submitted by wardy90 on Sun, 2011-12-25 10:22Sorry to all that i may of upset with recent pictures i put up. i had these pictures on my computer from when a mate took me out about 3 years ago. There was a picture of the catches of the day and there was 3 dhufish and i hadnt stated when i caught these fish and some people jumped to the conclusion that we were keeping more than the bag limit. i didnt know the rules back when we caught these fish but i know the skipper wouldnt break the rules ecspecialy the fact we were back at the boat ramp by 10:30am ;) awesome day that ill never forget. i dont fish to eat i fish to have a fun and to get them little butterflys flapping when i get a beauty.
hope every one has an awesome Christmas and dont drink too much;)

Sounder pics - what's your thoughts
Submitted by r.gates on Sat, 2011-12-24 22:40Hi all
Went out today with my daughter for a dive, hoping to snare a few crays. Headed out from The Cut but the conditions on the water mirrored the forecast on seabreeze....bugger. The swell was quite big and the water in close was dirty and churned up so we decided against going in.
Decided to sound around and check out some possible new dive sites and came across a patch of ground that gave up these pics. To me, they look like caves and overhangs....just wondering what you guys make of them. *Sorry about the quality of the pics...it was a bit rough out there today.
I'm pretty keen to have a dive on the site when the water clears up a bit...when I do, I'll take some underwater pics for comparison.
The weather looks pretty good next Tuesday and Wednesday....fingers crossed!
Have a great Christmas and enjoy the time with your families.
regards

River Fishing for the family
Submitted by Brian R on Sat, 2011-12-24 18:39First of all, Hi guys, new here, enjoyed fishing as a kid but I rarely find the time to go out.
Now I have kids of my own who like fishing and I want to take them out to the river, I live NoR near Mindarie so I'm in between the swan and moore rivers. Does anyone know of nice spots I can take the family this time of year, I'll probably go in the evening? I'm using rods with spinning reels and have very little idea on what tackle and baits to use.

Colour Sounder Buying - Help Needed
Submitted by timboon on Sat, 2011-12-24 17:26FW Crew,
Lookina at replacing my B & W sounder in my Tinni with a Coloured model. Will spend up to a grand can anyone give me their opinion on the best value for money sounders on the market in that price range. I guess the fishing I use it most for is bottom bouncing in the 30-50 mtr mark.
Look forward to hearing your opinions,

Am trying to work out how to get the sonar to show actual fish. At the moment I am only getting basic ground composition. Is there a tip to get the DSI to work also?
