Cray Pot Advice
Submitted by tonyb on Tue, 2009-09-29 21:05Looking at getting some new cray pots for this season. Have heard about round plastic ones with flat bottoms. Has anyone seen these?
I usually only fish of Lancelin on long weekends etc so I am not sure how good wooden ones would be. I believe you need to soak them for 24 hours before use so probably not an option.
I currently have plastic pots with average success. I have heard that covering them in shade cloth helps with plastic pots. Anyone tried this?
Any advice would be great.

Console modifications
Submitted by wayneleech on Tue, 2009-09-29 19:46Hi All,
I've decided to take the plunge and am attempting some modifications to the console on my profish 540. I've cut out an area to position my GPS and sounder. They were on the top of the console though in choppy weather my instruments would get wet, plus I have to take both the sounder and the GPS off the brackets every time I want to get the boat in and out of the garage as they would hit the roller door.
My plan next is to mount both the GPS and sounder in position and then I was going to get some aluminum sheet and box in the surrounding area to a) provide protection from the spray and b) to have them in the shade so the screens are easier to view in the direct sunlight.I was thinking of buying some aluminum sheet and some stainless steel rivets to box in the area.I was wondering if anyone has done similar ali modifications to their boats, eg, using rivets and ali sheets? Any comments/advice/pics would be much appreciated.
I don’t want it to look dodgy so I have thought about getting an ali fabricator out though thought I would try and save some $$$.
If anyone else has a centre, or side, console would be great to see some pics of their setups:)
Cheers
Wayne

Octo jig problems
Submitted by Mick on Tue, 2009-09-29 10:02G'day guys
Went fishing on Sunday in the shallows north of Kalbarri and finally decided to give the Octo snipers and a Lucanos a go. Plenty of hits but no bingo. They just didn't seem to hook up. Anyone else seen this problem or know how to rectify it. Ended up with 3 nice pinky's to about 700mm. Had an awesome experience with whales. We pulled up about 600m from a group of 3 to take some photo's and they turned and started coming towards us. within a couple of hundred metres they dissapeared. Myself and Leckie thought they buggered off only to have the absolute shit scared out of us with them popping up beside the boat. They circled around us a couple of times, then from the rear of the boat directly under us missing the bottom of the boat by bugger all. Leckie, a scotman with one hell of a broad accent, starting shitting himself. " This is joost fooking daft " in his broadest accent. They repeated this another 3 times and by then he had calmed down. Another couple of laps of the boat and off they went. Absolutely mind blowing

Yanchep Fishing
Submitted by Bluebonefamily on Tue, 2009-09-29 07:51We went to Yanchep for the long weekend and on Sunday we took the kids to Yanchep Lagoon for a fish.
We set up on the beach just at the mouth of the Lagoon. The spot was absolutly magic. We do not usually beach fish as the kids have trouble casting any great distance. Yanchep Lagoon was great as it is very protected with very little wave at the beach so we had half a chance.
We caught and released one very small Sand Whiting and three blow fish for a two hour fish. It was great fun and everyone had a good time.

Last weekend Karratha fishing! How did anyone go?
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2009-09-28 19:23Went out twice and got a "little" feed on Friday. Bloody windy. Sunday pm when the wind was to dropped NAFA (not a fishers asshole). Gillian manged a ROCK fish that appeared to fight well, current seem to do that, but it will be displayed in the garden because it is rather nice. I offered to fillet it but she said that not even Ryan expensive knife sharpener could resharpen the knife after that.
But one of our friends just bought a boat and got a beauty bluebone on spinner crabs. He has a photo to prove it and I have invited him to join and brag.
Hope he does

Transporting Mudcrabs
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2009-09-28 19:09Hi Crew,
I'm looking to bring some mudcrabs down to Perth soon and I need a few ideas on the best way to transport them. I will tie them up and put in foam box etc, but I haven't been able to find any hessian bags to cover them. Can I simply cover them with a wet blanket? Does that blanket need to be soaked in salt water? Should I refresh the blanket on the way down? I hopefully plan to catch them the day before, but want to try and keep them alive as long as possible.
Cheers,
Adam

Bremer Bay
Submitted by bluebagger on Mon, 2009-09-28 07:43I was hoping for some info on Bremer bay as we may head down for a couple of days. Can anyone tell me what sort of fish we might encounter down there? Have 6m tub and are hoping to get offshore, have been told the bottom drops off quite quick. Will be taking some land based gear in case the wind picks up. Is there anything we need to be aware of? Any help would be great, as have not been there before. If anyone wants to share any "areas" that may hold fish offshore and land based it would be appreciated. Thanks for any help.
GO BLUES.

Bozos Joins Fishwrecked
Submitted by Bozos on Sun, 2009-09-27 15:03Well it gives me great pleasure to be able to talk direct with fellow fishing enthusiast. my name is Phil Alder and I own Bozos Fishing who make the katch 1 jigs as well as a full range of soft plastic lures designed to catch every species of fish found in Australian waters. I am just a fisherman with a big heart. 3 years ago I started Bozos as I was sick of lures being shoved down our throats that were designed for America or Japan and not for us. Generally bottom bashing lures did not have enough weight and I was fed up with lures being bitten in half on the first bite. I started by making a Mullet as that is the main bait fish in our waters and then I went on and made a Pilchard ( I call this Smelt Galaxia). I just love fishing and I hope you really enjoy using whatever lures you chose to buy but please give Bozos a go. I am really proud of what I have done and already Bozos bosts many records and astounding catches. Some are the World record GT shown in our banner advert that was caught on a Bozos Katch1 jig. Then we had a 120gk Blue marlin caught on one of my "Thumper Grub"bottom bashing lures with an 8oz jighead. Marlin were not even being targeted and this Blue chased the lure up as it was retreived. Then we have had 100kg Dogtooth Tuna caught on my 5" Mullets with TT jigheads fitted by Damon Olsen of Nomad Sportfishing. We have also had 25lb Coral Trout caught on the same lures. I also make spinner baits, chatterbox lures and Buzz baits and we have been fortunate enough to dominate the Murray Cod Market on the East Coast and South Australia. The Chatterbox style lures have also landed sensational Barra due to their slow retreive speeds and increased amount of flash.
I dont want to rave on or do the old sell but just wanted to let you know who I am, what I do and I am looking forward to passing on any of the knowledge I may have been fortunate enough to gain from talking and fishing along side some of our best fisherman. Everone can learn something every time we go fishing. Always please feel free to contact me at anytime. Very best regards to you all - Phil Alder Bozos Fishing Pty Ltd - 100% Australian grown

weather
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sat, 2009-09-26 11:30hi
have just brought my new/secondhand boat, southwind sf655 with the 200 yammy and was wanting to know what is the best weather for fishing behind rotto.
i have had a smaller boat and have manly fished the bank at garden island all the time and as long as it was no more than 15kts winds, 1.5seas and 1.5swell was ok to go out.
now with the bigger boat i want to go further and would like to know the best wind dirrection, speed, swell, seas to go out behind rotto and maybe to the fads and try some trolling and some deep sea bottom bouncing.
also if anybody would bee so kind to give me some gps cordinates for some deep sea fishing spots in perth, (mandurah-two rocks) would be great, i dont expect you to give me premium spots but anything to get me out there would be fine
any help you can give will be great

Fishing Albany next week!
Submitted by Goodz on Fri, 2009-09-25 20:37Finally going to get into some action (I hope) next week as I'm headin down to Albany on Weds for 5 days of showing a mate from sydney what the great south west has to offer... mostly the fish but some scenery too! I've been told theres a lot of salmon around the beaches down there, "the best year of salmon fishing I've ever seen" ( to quote a mate who's lived down that way his whole life) so will go have a play with them and hopefully get out deep in the boat if the weather and swell permits. Anyone fished down that way lately? I'll be sure to post up a good report when I return with many photos of fish :)
Are there many fishwrecked member from Albany (or Denmark/Walpole)?
