Landbased Albany help
Submitted by Mad fisherboy on Fri, 2015-12-11 07:21We are heading down to Albany with a couple mates looking for some decent fish. We are limited to 4 days and want to get on some good fish. The last time we went there, we went to salmon holes, but it's not salmon season so we are interested in what you can catch at salmon holes during the summer.
Also i did a bit of research and found a spot called sand patches, interested in what you can catch there. However i took a look on google maps and it seems pretty hard to get to, is there a path down to the beach?
Any other spots would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You FW Members
Submitted by Mick C on Thu, 2015-12-10 21:07I would just like to say thanks to the FW Members that came to our premises today to have a look. I really appreciated that people had interest and took time out of their busy schedules to show us a bit of support. As I mentioned in the invitation post (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shore-catch-fw-members-invitation-101215-171215), we are still setting up and have a way to go but it was nice to see people there.
I decided to give a bit of a demonstration of the mixer/mincer. This was greeted with quite a bit of interest as it made short work of some cray heads. Made a batch of burley as well, but it was a bit of bucket chemistry rather than my carefully portioned recipe that I will sell in the future.

I was happy to give away the burley, as I can’t sell it until I get my Fisheries licences in early January. I had received delivery of the “quality” burley cages and it was encouraging that some Members actually purchased them after having a look. It was also good that people took away some of the Mustard hooks that had been donated to me.
Anyway, thanks again and remember we will have a similar day on the 17th if you are interested.

GI Causeway effect on Cockburn Sound
Submitted by aaasnapper on Thu, 2015-12-10 20:19The link below is a summarised report of a study conducted back in 2003 on the effects the Garden Island causeway has on Cockburn Sound. Its a pdf document. In short if the causeway was removed 300ha of seaweed would potentially grow back due to better water quality in the southern reaches of the Sound. Interestingly, the increasing of openings of the Causeway was also research with little improvement or even adverse affects predicted.
Therefore, the only true workable solution is to replace the complete causeway with a bridge. Considering its a Federal government asset, they should be responsible to allocate the funds.

Gopro advice
Submitted by sparrow on Thu, 2015-12-10 18:44Hey guys,
I'm sure there is plenty of people out there with a Gopro so seeking for advice as looking to purchase one.
What is the general opinion on them? Is the top of the range required for the extra features if use is only for surface activities/ shallow water?
A big factor is battery life. If its in a waterproof housing what life will you expect to get with the maximum size that fits?
My boat buddy has the very first one that came out and seems poor in battery life and software failure. I know this is consistent with the first model in anything but is anyone experiencing this in the newer products?
Any advice would be much appreciated, including where the best deals may be locally.
Cheers,
Sparrow

Walpole Fishing Advice
Submitted by Cold Feet on Thu, 2015-12-10 15:38Guys,
The wife and I are off to Walpole for a week over xmas break, and taking the boat down.
Plan is to launch at Rest point and leave the boat moored overnight, just off the bank, and kayak back to shore, or swim if the weathers good.
Any nice areas for Bream/Flathead out there, or any tips on what fish are around the river and estuary areas near Walpole?
Have made an agreement with the missus not to attemp a river mouth launch to the sea, as she wants it to be a chilled week of resting and calm boating for a change.
Any cool pubs or restaurants that are accesable by boat?
Any other members down there over that time that may be doing a sea trip out of Walpole, or want get together for a beer one evening?
Cheres for any advice.

John Adams Talk
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2015-12-09 21:51Attended this at All Boats tonight and it was brilliant for someone just getting used to looking at the ground as well as for fish whereas previously in the dinghy I used it as a depth tool and for finding bait balls to chase tailor in the river.
I feel way more confident now to go out and find some structure and (hopefully) some fish and just to generally sound around and try to determine what I am seeing.
Great stuff!

Cray Wrap
Submitted by Dogmeat on Wed, 2015-12-09 19:0010yrs ago i scored a heap of celophane-like, pierce resistent plastic wrap from one of the cray processors. Amazing stuff - wrap em tight, like how they wrap your fish and chips, snap a lacky around it and youre done. No spikes and pack beautifully in the freezer. Was good while it lasted but finally ran out.
Ive done the cursory run around / phone calls to the processors but its pretty much all live export these days (vs. All the wrapped tails of yesteryear) and nobody knows the stuff im talking about.
Does anyone know what it was called? Bloody marvellous invention it was too.

Thanks and a Negative
Submitted by Peko on Wed, 2015-12-09 12:19Big thanks to those kind people who helped me get my boat on the trailer a couple of times over the last few weeks when its been pretty blowy. Generally not a problem by myself but on occasion the arse of the boat can have a mind of its own on a windy day.
A big negative to the truck driver, white prime mover, who was following the funeral procession down Stock road today with his hi beam on. Hope it was a mistake but looked suspiciously like he was trying to hurry them up.

learnt a lesson today (another) and thanks to Rockingham Sea Rescue
Submitted by rigpig on Wed, 2015-12-09 11:00Well I headed out early and was on the water at 4:45 with the Girlfriend as my deckie and 40 litres of fuel in the boat. Well that's what the digital gauges said anyway. Got out from Point Peron ramp and was just going through the channel between GI and Point Peron and the engine dies. WTF i'm saying in a loud and disturbed manner to the GF. I dropped the anchor and tried and tried to get her started again and then the GF pumps the fuel bulb and it kicks over.
No bloody fuel!!!!
So we sat there until 6am (when Sea Rescue opens) with the GF leaning over the side turning all shades of green and periodically cursing me in language that shouldn't come out of a lady. I gave Sea Rescue a call and out they came and towed us back to the ramp. Thanks fellas..
I got the boat home and thought bugger it, i'll get some fuel and test the boat and go and pull the cray pots. I put a 100 litres in, adjusted the gauges and off we went again giving the Sea Rescue guys a shout not to go home just yet..
Pulled our two pots for ZERO crays, put them on the boat and headed home with my cray season done and even more cursing from my GF who was completely cheesed off about being seasick, late for work and no crays to show for her effort.
Definitely a lesson learnt for me, don't completely trust the digital gauges.
Tight lines and safe boating folks

Attempted Boat Theft
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2015-12-09 10:08Woke up to a bang last night and then a car speeding down the street with both sounds coming next to my boat which is parked on a paved area on the verge outside of my house. Went out to investigate and couldn’t see anything but this morning the wheel clamp is moved from where I normally centre it over the wheel so obviously someone’s tested it to see if it will come off. I gave it a pull and the bang was similar to the sound I heard last night.
In addition to the clamp I also have a hitch helmet and overnight I also have a 2 tonne ute parked in front of it which pretty much hides the hitch helmet. Only thing I could think is that they were trying to remove the clamp overnight thinking it was the only form of security so they could come back and steal the boat during the day without looking a suss by trying to remove the clamp them.
Head’s up folks, they’re out there.

Craypot weight
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Wed, 2015-12-09 07:04Thinking I might set the pots out deeper for the first time.
I have 3/4 full jarrah pots with 10kg's of weight at the moment - if they are still there - as I have not been able to get to them for a week.
Any thoughts on what weight I should run ? Another 10kg's ?
How much slack rope on the surface ? Don't want floats underwater in bigger sea's, which would be moving the pots I guess.
Was looking to put in around the 26mtr mark.
Cheers
Scotty

The family and I will be down there from 19/12 to 27/12 I am hoping to get into some rock fishing and get into me first sambo, weather permitting.
