Submitted by KeenAsFisho on Fri, 2012-11-09 08:36G'day All,
Next weekend I am heading down to dunsborough for a few days of relaxing. It's for mum's 50th and she is a massive fan of fresh squid so my question is whats it like down there lb squidding are there any good spots or none at all?
I'm not takin the boat down, cbf towing it all that way for 5 days while the bans on but wouldn't mind going after a feed of squid if possible.
Any info would be much appreciated.....

Entertainment in Freo
Submitted by pale ale on Thu, 2012-11-08 17:25Myself and a work colleague are doing some training down in the big smoke. Our accommodation is in Freo. Can anyone suggest which establishments would offer some relaxing entertainment for a couple dirty old blokes from the Pilbara.
We are hoping we dont have to travel all the way to Northbridge!

3B Walking Stick in the West
Submitted by brenz on Thu, 2012-11-08 09:17
After 2 weeks of terrible weather i managed to score an afternoon off work wich looked to be slightly favourable.
The plan was to hit the upper reaches of the Swan River Perth W.A by foot and throw around a few of the berkley 3B lures. Now this time of year in the Swan is usually a bit early to hit it with hard bodied lures, with plastics usually the way to go , but with my favourite lure at the moment being the Berkley 3B walking stick 50 in hooch it was a very easy decision to make to leave it on and go "hard's".
We arrived at the spot at roughly 3pm to find the wind blowing slightly in our faces wich put a smile on my face. First cast 2 winds in and BANG the walking stick got smashed with no hook up, " spewin " i said to my mate Brett when all of a sudden it was on , the reel screemed as this fish went for cover but I managed to wrestle him out of the snags and a respectable 37 cm fork length fish was on the sand, a quick few piks and the fish was swimming away.
From then on in we were managing a fish every few casts and to say these lures were on fire would be an understatement. But it was not all as easy as 1,2,3 as we found that a specific retrieve was to be the deadly undoing of these fish and proved to be the difference from consistent strikes to the odd nudge. The retrieve we have found most effective on the 3B walking sticks is as simple as this. Two quick turns of the handle to get the lure down then slow the pace down so the lure is only just swimming, but here is the trick every 3-4 turns of the handle give the lure 2 quick short twitches in a downwards motion and then pause for 1-2 seconds then start the slow retrieve again, we would usually find that it was these short sharp twitches that would get the bream interested the pause would give them time to "stalk" the lure then the start of the retrieve and they would hit it hard!
We ended up wrapping the day up with a few more nice fish closer to dark. The one suggestion i can give though is carry a few different colours because if they are not hitting one mix it up a bit and try another no matter how silly the colour seems, as depending on many different factors be it water clarity, food source etc they will be eating different things .

Cheers.

Looking for suggestions for a rod to match my penn international 16vsx which is spooled with 65lb braid and a 80lb topshop to be used for game fishing.
Has anyone got a similar setup running? And if anyone is selling a compatible rod...
Cheers,

paddle crabs, cane toads of the river
Submitted by quadfisher on Wed, 2012-11-07 18:07Not sure if anyones seen this but some imported crabs have been found in the swan river
and by going by the fisheries website they are s---g bricks about it.
And so they should , god knows what effect they could have her, going by the n.z. experience.
If you go crabbing keep your eyes peeled , and maybe print off a picture of them to take with you.

Fishing rod bucket ?
Submitted by SABRE on Wed, 2012-11-07 16:40Was watching I-fish last night and instead of using gimbals they were using what looked like a stubby holder with a beanbag atttched ???. Does any-one know what these are called and where you can get them. Looks a lot less cumbersome than wearing a gimbal all the time ? Sorry for shit description but best way i could think of describing it LOL

Swan River Tailor
Submitted by CraigSpedding on Wed, 2012-11-07 11:26Hi all, been hitting up a few spots in the river for some Tailor, had a small amount of success but am after a few spots, quite fancy trying out aroudn Matilda Bay, which side of the bay is better? Hacket Drive side or Charles Courst Reserve side? any other Tailor bashing spots would be greatly appreciated, still a Perth Newbie so bear with me when it comes to the river geography.

Where to fish this saturday: fly / spin
Submitted by Jelle on Wed, 2012-11-07 10:54After having to regretfully move from Port Hedland to Perth, having to regretfully leave the boat behind I'm now trying to get a fishing fix in the Perth area.
I know someone who is a keen flyfisherman and who has recently bought a 4.2m tinny and we're planning to have a go saturday arvo.
As I am completely new to this scene, is there anyone who could give us a push in the right direction? Ideally we will need to combine fly and spinfishing into a trip with reasonable chance of succes for both. Not too fussy about species, just after some fun.
Any hints will be more than welcome..
Thanks!

Worth a sticky?
Submitted by Versus on Tue, 2012-11-06 21:20Just wondering if its worth creating a sticky on "using the search function". I know i've been guilty of it, posting about topics that have been covered a fair bit (exmouth, etc).
Maybe there should be a search option up the top (next to links, shop etc), it is kinda inconspicuous.
