rod blanks
Submitted by mako magic on Sat, 2008-04-05 12:49ok well after busting one of my sabres yesterday im going to look at building a replacement rod, its been a long while since i built rods so was looking at where would be the best place to source a new blank, still looking at a sabre or a calstar, maybe another brand similar if someone could point one out in a similar price range.
looking at a 15-24kg short stroker, is there plenty of variety here or best to get one sent from overseas etc?

Nationals sponsors
Submitted by PilbaraBrad on Fri, 2008-04-04 09:45Hey all you tackle shop / business owners. Due to unforseen circumstances one of our team members has pulled out of the Barra nationals. The spot has been filled already but the guy that pulled out was supplying the boat. I am now taking my new rig which is great news as far as i am concerned.
I would like to offer the opportunity for anyone to throw a sticker on my boat for the comp, in exchange i would ask for some sort of small sponsorship in way of gear or fuel funds. On top of the sticker advertisement i can mention all of the sponsors in the FWA column i write for a bit of extra publicity. If any one is interested PM me. More than happy to wear the sticker, Adam and andy you already have a fishwrecked sticker advertised for free mate and i am happy to do that. Mabey you can send me another one for the other side, get you boys a bit exposure in the NT

Floreat Drain
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2008-04-03 09:56Yesterday was such a beautiful day I deecided to head down to Florat Drain in the afternoon to see if there were any salmon around.
My youngest daughter, who likes fishing but has done very little beach fishing before - and a work mate - who is keen to learn a bit more about fishing, came along. It was fun trying to pass on some tips about beach fishing to them both.
It was a beautiful night down there - but the fish were very quiet and between both of them they caught three small whiting and one big herring. My daughter was pretty excited about her herring.
The whiting were in plague proportions - but there were no tailor - or salmon.
Hopefully they are on their way.
All the best, Colin Hay

Perth fishing show
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2008-04-02 10:17I can't say too much as yet, but my company (which also runs exhibitions), has been approached by an international company about the possibility of staging a new fishing show in Perth.
We are a long way off putting together the final details - but I would imagine it would feature trade stands (ie tackle companies and shops), demonstrations, presentations, etc.
I wonder what everyone's feelings are about whether a show of that nature would be of interest to local fishermen.
What would be the best timing for such a show, etc.
All input, positive and negative, welcome.
Many thanks, Colin Hay

Albany Visit
Submitted by soupster51 on Tue, 2008-04-01 20:42Howdy All,
I'm heading down to Albany for Anzac Day on my big boat (HMAS Anzac). We get in the day before Anzac Day and was wondering if anyone was up for taking me fishing. I should be good to go from about 3pm. Off the beach, in a river, from a boat (can never get enough sea time) - I'll have a bit of gear onboard so whatever is offered I'm up for it. Happy to show people over the ship as a fair trade.
Cheers,
Scott.

Skippers Tickets
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2008-04-01 14:17Another Govt media release
Skippers need safety ticket from today
From today, the Recreational Skipper's Ticket (RST) is required for those operating recreational vessels in Western Australia.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said today's RST deadline marked an important milestone in the introduction of one of the most significant marine safety initiatives in WA.
“After a two-year roll-out of the regulations, from today, people in charge of a recreational vessel with a motor of more than 4.5 kilowatts (6HP) require an RST,” Ms MacTiernan said.
“The Skipper’s Ticket requires people in charge of recreational vessels to have a minimum level of skill and knowledge needed to protect themselves, their passengers and to share the water safely with others.
“Skippers must have their RST to operate a vessel, or face an on the spot fine of $200.”
The Minister said strong support for the initiative from the boating community throughout WA had resulted in more than 84,500 tickets being issued by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, with another 3,000 applications currently being processed.
“There are about 87,000 registered recreational vessels in WA, so the basic ratio of tickets to vessels is pleasing at this stage of the introduction of the RST,” she said.
“Authorised providers of RST training and assessment report a continued high level of inquires and bookings, which will further boost the number of qualified skippers in WA.
“DPI Marine and Regional Transport Officers, Department of Fisheries Marine Officers and Water Police will be enforcing the new requirement on all WA waterways.”
For more information about the RST or for the contacts details of one of department’s large network of authorised training and assessment providers, log on to http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/imarine
Alternatively, call the department’s RST hotline 9216 8966 for a copy of the free workbook or to obtain further information

If anyone is heading out and would like a deckie, I would love to get out there. It's been too long.
Stella 16000
Submitted by Italiano on Mon, 2008-03-31 19:23This maybe a stupid question but has any one else seen Stella 16000's? I was fliking trough a mates old copy of nafa on jigging and it had two japanese anglers using them and I was wondering are they available in australia and what is there gear ratio on them, they look similar to Stella 20000 except the spool is different.
