Freshwater tips
Submitted by Sea goat on Sun, 2025-09-14 15:41 Hi guys.
im taking the family camping down at potters gorge, Wellington dam in a couple of weeks. I was hoping to take the kids fishing for some trout or Redfin, but don't really have any freshwater gear. Just wondering if I could get some recommendations on rod weight and line that would be appropriate? Also any tips on lures, or bait/hook size would be awesome! I've only ever really flyfished in freshwater, so this is new to me, but think would be a great way to get the kids enthused!
any advice greatly appreciated!
cheers!

Westport - Artificial Reef Survey for Cockburn Sound
Submitted by Ush on Tue, 2025-09-09 16:32Gday all,
Westport have put out a survey to gauge interest and thoughts on an artificlal reef for the Sound. See link below:
https://westport.wa.gov.au/about/
I am all for providing new habitats and fishing oppurtunities for those who frequent the Sound - however not at the expense of destroying what we have existing. Over the years we have bent over backwards in adjusting to the ever changing bag limits and open seasons for Pink Snapper in the Sound - and for good reason - all for it to be potentially done in vain with this new Kwinana Port.
Am I the only one who interprets this as a way to appease us fishos as they anticipate the damage that will be done?
Have your say.
Cheers

Light/medium lures and plastics
Submitted by Troyboy on Fri, 2025-08-22 18:13Just wondering what peoples go to lures are for general fishing mixed bag stuff? I'll throw a couple out there, sorry admin not sure if brand names are allowed. 4"zman streakz in new penny and the 4" McCarthys paddletail in white pearl. Pinky's, dhues, blackass herring, tuna, skippey etc love them... any advice on spangos/trout on artificials? These vibes seem to be getting plenty of attention but at $20 a pop it seems a bit steep! You could get a pack of plastics and jigheads for the same price. Cheers!

More Restrictions ?
Submitted by The Saint on Wed, 2025-07-30 13:54This link was just sent to me by a fellow FW member.
How the hell could any moron believe that doubling the bag limit and abolishing the size limit on dhufish could be beneficial.
We fishos all new this would have a negative affect, now the powers that be look like hitting us even harder.
Others will most likely disagree, but if numbers a so seriously declining, then maybe dhufish should be regarded as an amature only species with no commecial take allowed.
I have nothing against pro fishing (I worked as one for a time) and I realise they are only trying to make a living, but if numbers of a particular species are so seriously threatened then shouldn't this be the first place to start.
Or is the whole thing really just a con ?

Transporting whole fish
Submitted by stricko on Sun, 2025-07-27 17:32Just noticed in the new fisheries guide and it's high lighted .when travelling between bioregions if the fish in your possession includes whole fish the bag limit for the bioregion where you are located applies. So only 4 dermersals in the west coast zone regardless of where they were caught. What about when the demersal closure is on.oh and thanks rec fish west for making the 10kg limit state wide when the fisheries only proposed doing it in the west coast zone.

Anderson lead
Submitted by still trying on Sun, 2025-07-27 11:05Hi all have had a bit of a stuff up on my boat and my lead from the battery to my cray winch needs replacing. It needs to be about 1.7m long with round 10mm I think terminals on 1 end and Anderson plug on other. I don't have the crimping tool and probably not worth buying for 1 lead. Just wondering where is best to get one from. I can always go back to where I got the winch just trying to avoid the drive down to safety bay.

Fishing Nanga Bay
Submitted by ROBBBO on Thu, 2025-07-17 18:37G'day All
An old fart here :). Haven't been in the West too long and looking at a first trip with the boat, probably to Nanga Bay next month. just after any advice at all that would help get me on to a few fish, not fussed on species, it's mostly for fun, although wouldn't mind a feed or two of decent table fish. Boat is a 5.4m with 130 donk. Bringing a mate from over East that is mainly used to bait fishing for bream and flathead, so would like to get him onto something bigger too. any advice would be much appreciated!
Cheers

Boat creature comforts.
Submitted by Silver Fox on Mon, 2025-07-14 10:21What's the one creature comfort you can't go without on your boat?.
I've just installed an airconditioner. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a game changer up here during the buildup / wet this season.
