FISHING LICENCE
Submitted by Italiano on Wed, 2007-09-19 18:45has anyone seen the front page of todays paper it's saying that the minister of fisheries wants to inturduce a fishing licence wanting all recreational anglers to pay $25 fee to fish and ban us from huge swaths of the state's coast and rivers as part of a overhaul of wa fishing laws. This fee would earn the government $20 million estimated a year which I have no problem about paying a licence fee as long as they can insure me that all, of the money i spend is going into breeding fish and going to fishing related things not in there pocket for another annual holiday at tax payers expense. But on banning us from fishing in some areas I think that is wrong why don't we have catch and release areas where anything caught in these areas size all not has to be put back as I think it is wrong to take our own coast line from us!!! I don't know what anyone else thinks about this but I don't think they will use the money for fish stocks and etc. and we will be no better off for paying a licence fee.

Burswood Bream - Lures?
Submitted by Dean on Tue, 2007-09-18 18:37So we will be heading up to burswood in a couple of weeks time again for a BBQ etc. Thinking about trying something new instead of bait.
Have been up there using Soft plastics but they didn't get a sniff. Used Berkly gulp sandworms on a jig head and on a hook (no touches). Tried some other SP in the shape of little fish which dont use jig heads and got zilch on those also. Other than getting no bites another problem is snags, and there is lots and rocks etc out there so you do lose quite a few jigheads etc.
So what are you thoughts on using small hardbodie lures like baby vibes? Or a small floating lure (suspending Jerkbait) or something similar?
Cheers
Dean

Got myself a new fish taming device!
Submitted by jimbo1 on Fri, 2007-09-14 15:06Well I decided to have a little upgrade! Earlier this year I upgraded from a TLD25 to a AVET MXL 6.3, however still I wasnt completely satisfied.
After getting out fishing with Chezza on the southern leg of the comp and seeing the ease of use with his gear, I decided to follow suit.
And bought myself a new ACCURATE Magnum Boss 870 2 speed. She's spooled with 50lb tuff line and waiting to go catch the big one.
Now if I could only talk the other half into letting me spend up on another rod

Hogh vis vs Low vis
Submitted by jay_burgess on Thu, 2007-09-13 19:21I notice alot of braid is available in high vis colours and low vis colours. My question is, are fish put off by the high vis line and is hookup rates higher with low vis??? I guess a good length of FC leader would solve any issues.

Who was it?
Submitted by SPESS on Wed, 2007-09-12 10:41Just a quick question: My misses has been driving the "SPESS RIG" latley which is a white triton GLXR duelcab with spess plates and a nice big fishwrecked sticker on the back. Anyway she has been telling me that she has been getting shit loads of people waving latley and 1 guy she's seen a couple of times in a white small ute (her discription) waving flat out. North of the river around the marangaroo, landsdale, greenwood, joondalup area. Sorry but she keeps telling me but i have no idea who it is and hopefully someone can tell me! hahahaha I know streetfighter sees it regulary but who is it??????? Cheers Chris.

Brisbane
Submitted by desmond on Tue, 2007-09-11 22:36Hi all,
Going to Brisbane on the East Coast at the end of this week and will be there for three months. Anyone have any idea what bites there? Am staying near Sunshine Coast Airport. What gear should I bring? I gotta travel light. Stuck on land unless anyone has any ideas on how to get me on a boat :)
I know there can't possibly be any forums for the East Coast that is anywhere as good as this one, but would be nice if someone could sneak me a link ;)

Med spin combo
Submitted by jay_burgess on Mon, 2007-09-10 18:01In desperate need of a spin combo to fish 20/30lb. Will be used mainly for livebaiting for barra and perhaps a bit of bluewater work in the off season. Thinking of a Sustain/Twinpower 4000. My question is will these handle 30lb or would they be better suited to 20lb? Which rod would suit nicely? Thinking of a Starlo Stix Snapper Spin (5-8kg).

CVZ Service Help
Submitted by jay_burgess on Mon, 2007-09-10 17:19g'day guys need help servicing my CVZ 203. Can't seem to work out how to remove the right hand side plate (probably really easy but it's got the better of me atm)... I've removed the left hand side plate, handle nut, handle, star drag & bearing washer as well as the cast control cap. I've loosened R/S screw B (see schematics)... but can't seem to work out where to go from here.
What can I use to clean parts (safely) and what parts need to be oiled/greased..??

Friday Moore River Bream Bash
Submitted by rickets on Wed, 2007-09-05 16:34Anyone (h0ju you're included ya bitch!) interested in heading up to moore river (30mins north of quinns) to hit up some of the good sized bream there?
I wanna try and get a crew together to trip up there, should be awesome! Yes I know the weather isnt ideal, its the only time I can get off work (due to weather) but its well sheltered along the river so it should make for some good fishing...
Also the fact that theres no tide in the river, and the fact that the average bream (so ive been told by numerous people) size is like 31+cm so if ya interested, do reply and we'll see if we can organize a carpool before then or something...

Cleaning Squid
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2007-09-05 09:19Does anyone have any fool hardy methods of cleaning squid in a jiffy but gets all those annoying skin bits off? I have a method of grabbing the backbone cartiledge and pulling almost all of the guts out, then make a small cut under the wings which allows for most of the outer skin to be peeled off. But theres always niggly bits left over that take ages to clean. Has anyone got a technique that works for getting them clean easily?

FIRST BREAM ON HB'S!
Submitted by rickets on Tue, 2007-09-04 16:27Headed down to east perth today due to the weather being crap and me and tyson off work...
I had decided after reading a few articles and whatnot and was absolutely detirmined to catch fish on lures/hb's and tyson was happy to give the tweeds another go out...
So we got to east perth, walked the banks for a bit till I hit some structure with a pipe and whatnot...
I started with a strikepro pygmy, was not getting much and tyson then started pulling fish in after I burleyed up (of course with spess' awesome shit) and the fish were on the bite. Wasnt too sure on tides, actually ill check the tides now.......
Ah, awesome, it was a good 5 hours before the low... so well in the middle of the gushing tide...
Anyway, tyson was landing fish, as per normal and i kept me head down and tried not to let it bother me too much...
I switched to a baby vibe after a while of using the suspending pygmy with maybe 1 hit? but i noticed a good sandbar past the pipe so I walked up using the baby vibe...
In a few casts, I was ON! pulled the sucker in and it was a 31cm beauty! Nice and heavy!!!
After releasing it, I hooked up another 2 times however, lost both fish, the second though, i had nearly landed and got a good glimpse of it under the water, would have been quite good size, if not bigger than my first so I was absolutely stoked!~!!!!
Tyson, though, caught 7 fish total, his max was only 28... so im happy with the performance given, simply because I dont smell like bait, and im getting in some good hours with lures and I feel a heap more stoked and confident now!
Anyway thats my news for today... cant wait to get back out there and hit some snags or banks with the HB's..
Although, maybe a trailing question for this thread would be... Ok i was using a snad nod retreive for the vibe, however, im pretty clueless with how to work a suspending HB for bream... would love to nail that! Anyone know what the best retireves for suspending HB's are>?

how far out from shore??
Submitted by scano on Tue, 2007-09-04 13:59hi guys
i have just rescently purchased a 4m front steer tinny for a spot of fishing on calm days. i fitted up a Navman fishfinder and lights ect and I was thinking of heading out from either Mindarie or Ocean Reef early this sunday morning. I am new to the whole ocean tinny fishing scene and i was wondering if anyone could help with a few questions i have.
how far out from shore would you need to travell to hit 35 -40m worth of water?
is there any spots metro area that are well protected from the wind that you can land a half descent catch without having to travell to far?
my tinnie has a 30hp Johnson on the back so power isn't too bad for it's size but i don't want to travell too far incase the weather turns sour and i can't get back in.
i know no one is going to surrender their prize winning spots but any help would be greatly appreciated. it doesn't have to be north of the river either, happy to travell pretty much anywhere metro to get some nice cruizy fishing spots where i would have half a chance of getting a feed for the table.
hope to meet some of you on the water some time soon
Scano
