Swan river - barges - mosman bay

The latest hotbite mag has got a article about a couple of shipwrecks in mosmans bay in the river.  Never knew they existed until now, when the mullas start moving into the river we were thinking about doing a night fish on it.

So has anyone on here actually found where the barges are?  Doubt someone is going to give me co-ords, so my question is what does it look like on the sounder?  The artice stated that they are pretty broken so are likely to be difficult to find, if it all.  any help appreciated.

Any clues?  anyone

Machine gun cast, anyone?

Just reading and picking out some new purchases from the Diawa catolgue and i noticed some of the new rods are stated as purfect for the machine gun cast........now ive done many a different fishing styles and have many different cast in my book but im stuffed if ive ever heard of this before. Could anyone shed some light on this for me as im sure its just one already known but called something different. Cheers Chris.

The Leuwin Current

The lewin current should be getting up there soon, saw a leatherback turtle on sunday afternoon on the way back in to oceanreef boat ramps.  At first we thought it was a pilot whale then saw it's big back come up out the water, none of the pics turned out :(

So this might be a sign of the current warming up?  I hear the spanish mackerel are making their way down atm.

boat flooring - help needed

The glue holding the carpet on my Tub has lifted after having fuel spilt on it. I figure it is pretty much rooted and stinks of fuel so I ripped it out last night. Boat is a plate one. Just wondering on what people have used in the past. Marine carpet is nice to walk on but I find it is hard to get any smell out of and because it lives in the garage can stink up the house for days.

I was thinking of the rubber matting like the Kiwi boats have, still non slip but drains and wont hold water, or trying to  find someone who will do spray on Bedliner such as Rhino lining and do the back floor with that. An advice and if anyone knows where to get the rubber matting it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for Sunday

I would like to give a big shout out to Steve and the crew on Boutime for letting us tag along for the day. Whilst no fish were harmed during the day it was still a great day on the water and the first time I have been to rotto and beyond. Hopefully will get back there when some sambo's come out to play. Did see a heap of whales and also a heap of YTK chopping bait but they would not take a raider no matter what size I threw at them. Saw some reallly good ground on the sounder and found a heap of bait but nothing wanted to play.

mandurah boat show

when is mandurah boat show...is it next weekend?

reel advise

hi all,
i need to replace a reel without blowing the budget
my current reel (rovex big boss) actually snapped at the rotor this morning, leving me with a very angry fish still on and no means to retrieve line.
i need a reel that can handle bigger fish but needs to be eggbeater style
i was looking at one of the bigger shimano baitrunners but am unsure if the drag would be up to the job
any reccomendations appreciated

cheers

What's you favourite Metal Slice?

Hey Fellow Fisho's,

I'm just wondering whats everyone's favourite metal lures. I love my Halco Twisties from 10g - 30g on the light gear and boy I catch everything on them well species that you get in the metro.

Species I caught on them (I actually have a diary):
- Herring        - Skippy
- Flathead       - Blue Mackerel
- Tailor           - Yellowtail
- Small Pinky (35cm)

Thats it on my trusty Halco Twisties.

Thanks guys for sharing.

Cheers...

bully fisherman

hey guys i was on breammaster.com and noticed this thread and thought it might be interesting. it was along the lines of ppl getting abused and such for releasing decent fish. has this ever happened to you or sumone you know?

pink snapper recapture......wow!

Just recently i was out on my boat fishing for pink snapper (outside of Cockburn Sound) with a mate (Tigh) and got a few fish but one fish was definately a stand out.

One of the pink snapper actually came up with a whitish/silver scar down it's body. At the time we didn't really think much about it but when i went to wipe away a very small bit of weed off the fish next to the scar it didn't wipe off. Much to my amazement it was about 12mm of tag hanging out with weed growth on it.

Now i've caught tagged fish with growth on it before but this fish had actually grown it's skin over the tag and hense why there was a silver scar, the tag was underneath. I decided it would be good to keep the fish and cut the tag out for research and i couldn't read anything of the tag as it was buried and hard to read. My friend Tigh caught the fish and was good enough to say it's up to you Ryan, we kept the fish which weighed 5.8kg and cut out the tag for info.

At the time i said to Tigh this looks like a very old tag perhaps 4 years old which would be great if thats the case as older tagged fish gives us good info. The tag was the small version and that's what you use on small fish but you could say the pinky nearly grew out of the small tag completely!

I submitted the info to fisheries Research lab, Andrew Rowland (Recfishwest) was good enough to call me back asap with the results which was intriguing.

The fish was;

Caught by: Tony Andro (charter boat)
When: 1st Nov 2001
Where: 33m South of Rotto
Total length: 310mm
Caudal length: 260mm

Now;

Caught by: Tigh (decky on my boat)
When: 1st Oct 2007
Where: just outside of the Sound
Total length:781mm
Caudal length:726mm

The fish was very healthy and at liberty for 6years 11 months, and grew about 67mm a year............WOW, thats friggen awesome news and good info for the tagging research and the frame is here to be donated also.

I was very happy with the info, so was Andrew and thought i'd share this!

Fishing with Jig Heads!

Hey fellow fisho's,

I've read this article in the Fishing WA magazine and it has this part of fishing with jig heads. I was absolutly amazed how simple this is and how effective it is. When I got back from the draft camp all I wanted to do is get a bit of fishing done, but I wanted to check this new style of fishing. Well boy does it catch fish! I treated it like I was using a lure so I whacked a whole Coral Prawn (peeled) and cast it a upon the sand bank and just hopped it along the sand and as soon as the first twitch I was on. A plump Yellowfin Whiting at night on a whole Coral Prawn so may be this thing does work!

Cheers guys!

Jap Twinpower or New Sustain

For around the same cost I can either get a Jap twinpower 4000 or one of the new Sustain 4000FE's. The new sustain looks like a fine piece of machinery and I'm tempted to go with it despite it being the more deerer of the two. I've also heard very good reports about the Japanese twin power so I'd like you're oppinions please.

Duo Jig rod or Uglystick

Just want some opinions of anyone that has used these rods or knows something about them.

Last jig rod was broke on the weekend (stripped of the eyes) but was only $20 so looking at upgrading.

Tossing up in my head

uglystick (probably a black tiger)
duo jig rod

Coral Bay Boat Ramp - Opens 7th October

I've got the word from a few locals down at Coral Bay that the new boat ramp will be officially opened on the 7th of October. Last weekend when I was there they only had to finish painting the lines in the carpark. I know it will reduce environmental impact on Bills Bay, but when July school holidays come and 50 boats are trying to retrieve it should make things very interesting.

Cheers,
Adam

any body goin out monday ??

Another good day

Got invited out by Jody this morning fished out from Cottosloe was a quiet day on the water for me where as Jody was both the Skippy and Sambo Queen if it wasnt her flicky rod going off her larger spiiner was, there were fish left right and centre, not sure if it was her pink line that she was useing!mmmm
Jody was the perfect hostess, great little boat and great conditions
Best of all while cleaning her boat at her place her daughter came out with some afternoon tea

Great way to spend the day

Baby sambos

does anybody have a tried and true artificial they use for baby sambos in the river. every lure i try comes up with little- to- no reward.

Medium Plastics Rod

I'm after a plastics rod that's going to be used casting 5" Snapbacks and other similar sized plastics on a 4000 sized spinning reel with 20lb braid. It needs to be able to cast light jig heads into the wind on a bad day but also have enough grunt to pull Trout and Bluebone out of the reef. I'm thinking something around the 6-8kg range would be ok, preferably between 6'-7' (one piece). Don't really want to spend over $180-$200.

Any suggestions?

Power Knobs!

Gday fellow fisho's,

I've been recently seeing all these Power Knobs being introduced to the fishing reels. I was just wondering can you get any knobs for Bream Reels? They look absolutly awesome but the only thing is that I've only seen them designed for Shimano, Daiwa etc. Is it possible to find any for like Penn Affinity and that?

Cheers Lads.
