Casting light line
Submitted by jay_burgess on Sun, 2007-08-05 14:24I tried a few weeks ago, for the first time, light line fishing. The line was 6lb Yamatoyo braid but for me light can be anything under 20lb...
Anyway, I was very surprised how hard it is to fish with line this fine and how easily it can get knots when casting. Had a few nightmarish tangles where I've had to put it down and substitute with the heavier barra gear. The biggest thing for me was not being able to cast the leader knot through the guides... I learned this the hard way.
Does anyone have any tips to make casting light line easier and stress free? The reel I am using is a Penn Affinity 1000, courtesy of the Shizz

oh no
Submitted by dogsoldier on Sun, 2007-08-05 09:21of the state. After spending the night, his grandfather prepared breakfast
for him consisting of eggs and bacon. He noticed a film-like substance on
his plate and he questioned his grandfather....are these plates clean? His
grandfather replied....those plates are as clean
as cold water can get them so go on and finish your meal.
That afternoon, while eating the hamburgers his grandfather made for lunch,
he noticed tiny specks around the edge of this plate, and a substance that
looked like dried egg yolks...so he asked again....are you sure these
plates are clean? Without looking up from his hamburger, the grandfather
says.....I told you before, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get
them, now don't ask me about it anymore!
Later that afternoon, he was on his way out to get dinner in a nearby town.
As he was leaving, Grandfather's dog started to growl and would not let him
pass....Grandfather, your dog won't let me out.
Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching,
Grandfather shouted, COLDWATER, GET OUT OF THE WAY
Standing at the edge of the lake, a man saw a woman flailing about in the deep water. Unable to swim, the man screamed for help. A trout fisherman ran up. The man said, "My wife is drowning and I can't swim. Please save her. I'll give you a hundred dollars."
The fisherman dove into the water. In ten powerful strokes, he reached the woman, put his arm around her, and swam back to shore. Depositing her at the feet of the man, the fisherman said, "Okay, where's my hundred dollars?"
A man and his newlywed check into a mountain resort by a lake. The desk clerk notices the "Just Married" sign still on the car. As soon as the man gets the luggage out of the car, he hops in a boat to go fishing.

NOR v SOR Swan Fish Location??????
Submitted by Andy Mac on Tue, 2007-07-31 19:53So the question is.........
Where should we do it? Burswood/South Perth/Rivervale??????
Give us some ideas as to where we can fish and gather for a bbq.
The champion angler trophy will be engraved and presented on the day and we will hopefully put on a few beverages etc with some of the left over prize money from the NOR comp and still have enough for some prizes on the day for the shore based guys. I am thinking $5 per angler to fish in the shore based comp (to make sure we have some prize money to give out) but we will make it totally catch and release (but nothing stopping you taking home a feed if that is what you want to do) and totally land based. Spouses and children welcome (need someone to drive you home after a skin full

Submitted by rickets on Tue, 2007-07-31 17:06So... my mate just called me and reckons he just heard on the radio that a whale carcass has washed up somewhere near hillarys marina and that due to the really squally winds and weather, authorities havnt had the chance to remove it yet...
His thoughts are, "Would this berley up the water? is it worth throwing a line out?"
So I said id put it up on here too... whats the general concencus when theres a carcass in the water regarding fishing conditions?

Finally a Bream!
Submitted by rickets on Tue, 2007-07-31 14:05Called up MetallicSharky this morning and tried to suss out where he was going, he said he was going out on a boat with his mate...
anyway 10 mins later i got a msg saying plans had changed cos they lost the keys to the boat and he was just going down to this island in the river
So I went to tee up to meet with him and his mate and I got to ashfield and like, they were nowhere to be found... rang him up and the phone cut out mid conversation and then his phone must have gone out of range or something so I thought the bastids had ditched me! So I texted him and he said they were just ducking out to get more bait.. i thought it was all bullcrap so I just stayed and fished by myself....
Chucked an unweighted jellybean styled prawn out and within seconds of it drifting to the bottom, I was hooked up.... bream ran for a snag, i tightened my drag (because it was 10lb line due to my rack raider snapping on the weekend i was using my daiwa cy and tierra with just a light 6lb flurocarbon leader) and yeah then it started to go the opposite direction for a tree stump then I pulled it in....
FINALLY, IVE LANDED A FISH IN 2 WEEKS OF RIVER FISHING TRYING TO GET THE BASTIDS!
Was a very clean approx 23cm bream.... very silver in colour? Thort that was strange...
Anyway, pulled 2 more tiny buggers in, like fishtank material and this boat rocks up... guess who!
Metallicsharky! hahah found his keys... so much for the fish though, I think thier boat engine spooked them...
I had a few more big tugs but didnt manage to land them and that was it for the day...
but im still happy, thanks sharky for sharing the spot... :) Much appreciated!

LESSONS
Submitted by dogsoldier on Tue, 2007-07-31 09:54Lesson 1: A priest offered a lift to a Nun. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest apologized "Sorry sister but the flesh is weak." Arriving at the convent, the nun went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, "Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory." Moral of the story: If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity
Lesson 2: A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, "I'll give each of you just one wish." "Me first! Me first!" says the admin. clerk. "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world." Poof! She's gone. "Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life." Poof! He's gone. "OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch." Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.
Lesson 3: A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A rabbit asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?" The crow answered: "Sure, why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it. Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.
Lesson 4: A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, but I haven't got the energy." "Well, why don't you nibble on my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree. Moral of the story: Bullsh*t might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there for long.

Suggestions for beach/surf rods
Submitted by Loco on Tue, 2007-07-31 00:45I'm looking at getting myself a new beach/surf rod. Would like something that's fairly light, yet strong and of course, the casting distance has to be good. (I know that it depends on technique as well) Any suggestions or recommendations? Though i must say that my budget isnt too big. Below $200. Thanks guys!

River for Bream
Submitted by rickets on Fri, 2007-07-27 15:58Fished the Mosman Bay, Freshwater Bay areas for bream twice this week. Both times from about mid morning to early arvo and using coral prawns and bass minnows, atomic grubs, even gulp sandworms in camo and blood...
Cant seem to find fish.. I dont know what the hell im doing wrong... maybe im not patient enough but all that we kept landing was blowie after blowie and another blowie....
landed a leatherjacket this morning, (although that woulda been a fluke) and the other day, one undersized bream.....
Theres gotta be something im doing wrong... if one of you sly river fisho's can work it out, ill buy you a beer!
ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WTF IS GOING ON?!?~!? Just cant find them!~
