Abrolhos Anchorages
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Thu, 2012-03-22 22:53
Hi guys,
Planning a 5 day trip through the Abrolhos islands over easter.
Am captaining a 45ft Game boat and am a bit concerned over anchorages.
My base plan is to start at the southern group and to work my way north each day finishing on the northern group at the end of the trip.
Was hoping someone might be able to give me some good anchorage spots that they know of on the different islands. We are chasing mainly a sand bottom in reasonably shallow (3-5m) however really will take any good suggested spots you guys can offer. I have a fair bit of experience anchoring the big boats in normal conditions however I believe abrolhos is a case on its own with the wind. Blowing 40km is a great day out there.
Any advice on spots would always be appreciated in case we struggling to find somewhere ourselves.
Regards
Jd

Night Breaming
Submitted by sambo24 on Thu, 2012-03-22 20:34Anybody had any success on bream at night on artificials (minnows/blades/SP's)
I've been trying a little bit lately after getting mixed advice from a mate at a tackle store, havent had much success though.
I'm guessing my best bet would be SP's which are scented or something which rattles and carries on?

Im sure there are plenty of opinions out there and would be good to hear a few. I'm using mainly braid on overhead and spin.

What rod, bottom bouncing, Ningaloo, Dirk Hartog
Submitted by rockhead on Thu, 2012-03-22 15:51I've got a Penn 850SSM and a TLD 15 and 20. I'm off bottom bouncing next month off Carnarvon at the islands and then onto Ningaloo for some of the same. I'm in the process of buying myself a Silstar CB 601 JSH Jig Rod which I've used before with great success. For the bottom bouncing bit, can anyone give me an idea of what another good rod would be to fit the above gear. I've also got a Shimano Tunataker for my trolling, but looking for some suggestions for the bottom bouncing bit 15-24 kg probably.

Daiwa TD sensor vs sensor surf
Submitted by turts on Thu, 2012-03-22 14:14Hi guys pretty set with these two braids can anyone shed some light on the better option
Running 20lb for lure spinning off the beach but also double up for luring pelagics on the boat also
Sensor surf appears a bit thinner and smoother assume may be better or casting as is it's intended purpose? Also has the colouring for line measurement but to be honest probably won't be much use for me
Curious to hear any thiughts
I have run td sensor on a few reels before for other usage and love the stuff but not familiar with the sensor surf
Cheers

2 sounders same frequency
Submitted by meglodon on Thu, 2012-03-22 14:07hi
can some one please help me with a bit of knowledge about sounders, I have a lowrance lcx 15ci and also a computer base sounder magic black box and software to run the cruzpro pcff 80 sounder package. the trouble i'm having is this, i can't seem to get a really clear image on the pcff 80 setup, it appears to have a fair bit of interferance on the screen through all deapths (i'm using 200hz settings) i've insulated the cable from the pcff 80 transducer to the the computer and the power cable from the power sorce (battery) to the computer and this has not cured the problem.
I still have the lowrance lcx 16ci running as a reference point while playing with the other system. I have been told that you can't use two sounders on the same frequency at the same time, can anyone please tell me if this is true and what are the seen effect on the screen in you do run both at same time. lowrance shows not interferance on screen.
The reason I went to the pcff 80 system is that I have a 14" screen sounder at a very good price (if i can get rid of the screen interferance that is)
thanks good people any advice gratfully appreciated

Echo Sounder
Submitted by HondaHoncho on Thu, 2012-03-22 10:34Missus has promised me a fish finder for my birthday, but the limit's $900.00. (Yes, I'm on a short leash!
)
Needs to be suitable for a 3.9m Quintrex. GPS isn't a must, but I'd prefer colour.
Any advice on a unit which has worked well for you, on a dinghy?
Any advice on modifying the mounting to slip into a rail-mounted rod-holder socket?
Would appreciate any / all feedback!~
Cheers,
HH

Braid Help
Submitted by Ash06 on Wed, 2012-03-21 18:57Hi All
I've just aquired a TLD25 and are looking at using it for shark fishing/ballooning etc. I was wondering what braided line would be best suited to the reel if anyone has experience with this reel or knows anyone who does. I was thinking 30lb myself but i dont want to go and spend big on the wrong line for what i want it for if its not suited to it.
Cheers

Certate Hyper 4000 RCS spool- capacity?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Wed, 2012-03-21 18:28Hi all.
Just bought a Hyper 4000. Love the reel, cant wait to use it, but just mildly concerned about the seemingly shallow spool... Am looking at an RCS spool. Was wondering if anyone knew the difference in capacity they provide for the 4000? have had quick search on the net but struggling to find any definate details so thought Id ask the experts....
Also, does this spool increase the drag at all? if so, how much
Does anyone have any reccomendations on other brands of aftermarket spools that would give the most capacity?
have found this one, but it looks a bit dodgy....
Cant wait to take the reel back up the Carnarvon in a couple of weeks and give it a good working out...!
Cheers guys

Sandy Cape - 3.4m tinny or 5.3m poly?
Submitted by VaSSagO on Wed, 2012-03-21 16:44Heading up there for the first time which should I take?
It looks fairly protected and beach fairly hard. Got maxtrax to go unde trailer wheels, snatch straps and winch plus will be with 2 other 4bies.
Would prefer to take the poly but not if I can't launch it
Worse case should be able to just winch it onto the beach and then stick it on the trailer?

Time to vent @ FWA
Submitted by Paully on Wed, 2012-03-21 14:26the question is - how much incompetance should a customer deal with before they learn their lesson. It started last year, being a subscriber of FWA and not getting the mags - rang FWA on 3/4 occassions about this, only to speak with a person working from home who could give me no definative answers - "I'll send an email to my boss and we'll let you know" was the standard response. Did I get those reponses - NO. Eventually got my subscription money reimbursed, after being advised there was nothing more they could do. Ordered the whole Series 11 DVD set two weeks ago online through FWA. Ring the same person today who tells me, they should have been sent, not "they were sent", but they "should have been sent" once again, nothing definative - since that person is working from home. Was also told that I am the 3rd person to ring up and query my order, having not received the DVDs. Ask to get a phone call at home so I can speak with someone aboout this, to be told, "I'll email the boss and get him to send you another set asap"...............
I dont normally vent like this, but I'm angry at the level of service or lack of it - has anyone else experienced these sort of problems?

Quick Darwin Visit
Submitted by Brock O on Wed, 2012-03-21 13:14Hi Guys, had a spare day in Darwin so took a few photos.
Nothing special a few boat ramps with warning signs, people fishing of bridges which were quite popular and a special platform off there main wharf with man made reef system. I never seen people use the drive on system with a tinnie but these people were.

Can someone help me in Coral Bay?
Submitted by Chester on Wed, 2012-03-21 08:02Hey guys,
My annual fishing trip is coming up from the 20th of April to the 5th of May. We will be towing a 28ft boat up to Coral Bay and launching it there, then heading north and spending two weeks heading out from near Ningaloo station cant wait..
What i was wondering was if any one could help with just storing the boat trailer whilst we're gone, or know some one that could help? There would be a drink in it for somebody...
This is only some of the selection....
