Bloody hell

You are not wrong when you say a monster from the deep.

I don't think I could keep something like that, it must have been very old and I think I would have let it go.

Only southern crays found in Tassie and that is clearly a western rock lobster

Size of legs

Thu, 2016-04-14 18:34

If it was a genuine cray that size then the legs would be double that size.
Though a mate dived in 38 metres NW of Bunbury and reported crays that were so big they wouldn't fit in the neck of a craypot. I have seen some jammed tail first in a 14 inch neck of a pot, so somewhere out there is a monster waiting to be caught

Biggest I have seen went 7.1 kg

Thu, 2016-04-14 19:48

Weighed on certified scales, fluke catch by a mate whilst he was diving off Rotto, someone else spooked it and it bolted hitting mate in the chest, reflex had him clutching his chest only to trap the cray in place......had to surface with it held in place

sure someone on here can better that ....sorry no photos as it was two decades ago

As someone else said, is\ts a western rock, not southern. Does anyone remember the picture that used to be in Tel-o-mac tackle shop at Carnarvon? of the cray that was hung off a pole held up by two blokes? Bloody monster, think it had been caught diving off Dirk Hartog?
