27 Meg /VHS radios foe Exmouth Fishwrecked Fishing Comp

As a thought ,how many of those thinking of heading up for the comp have VHS radios?

Exmouth Marine Rescue and the same here in Carnarvon prefer the use of VHS over 27 meg due to the distances boats need to travel to get fish.Exmouth has a repeater for boats working down the west side from Tanta's for VHS but not for 27meg.

I know its an extra cost for them and having to obtain a restricted marine radio licence but I think it is worth it if the life it may save is yours

So what programs are you

So what programs are you recording on your VHS? Get good reception out on the water?

Pretty sure you only need the licence if you want to go with the DSC version of the VHF radios. Standard ones are fine.
Good point though and might pay to make it a condition of having one to enter the comp.

27 meg and worked fine 15 mile out past the point, but we also had a hand held vhf just in case,i dont think it would be nessesary for everyone to have vhf as there will be a quite a few other boats within ear shot we just have to pick a chanel to monitor boat to boat . IMO

VHF

I have 27 and VHF in the tinny, but VHF is the preferred communications up here in Exmouth.  Don't think too many people have a license and it doesn't seem to be checked up on, think sea rescue up here are just happy to have people on the radio!! (as long as they aren't being d***heads)

Fair call

Yeah fair call that one Adam, just call up on 16 and then change to a working channel. The Dampier Port Authority will let you know if your doing the wrong thing (i.e. chatting on 16).

Great range on VHF, hardly ever use the 27 meg up here.
