4000 - 8000 Reels
Hi Guys and gals
After reading the post about the 4000 reel advise I was wondering where certain reels fit in the armory. I basically have a range of saragosas, and in the 4000 size I personally love it. But I have a gift coming and its time to think about what to add to the ever growing list.
Most of my older reels dont see action, simply because I a few Okuma V systems years ago, and I dont like them at all now.
The question: Where in a list does the smaller saragosas sit in people minds. I would read it on price alone that it is below Twinpower and Stella, but above Stradic and Sustain's, but from all the posts it appear that in the 4000 and 5000 range they just dont appear as a favourite.
So if I was to spend some more am I better to get others in the smaller Gosa size range. All my uses is saltwater ATM but you never know, might be back down in Perth at some time and I certainlt wont bring out the small V systems.
Brad that is where I might just get a Stella 1000!!!!

Mate, a little bloke who
Mate, a little bloke who looks suspicously like DazSamFishing said to me a while ago "Buy the most expensive reel you can afford".......I ignored him for a while, but it has turned out to be sage advice I am afraid.
I look back at all the "value for money" rods and reels I have purchased over the past few years and I dont use any of em any more. After getting my first Stella, it has been very hard to fish with inferior gear.
I looked for value for money small reels and got severla Daiwa Tierra's.......they are all on their last legs and are being replaced by a Stella SW4000PG for jigging and a soon to be Certate for softies.....I could have saved my money on the Tierras and just about bought a new Certate at the time, and it would still be working perfectly now.
Work out how much you can afford, double it, then add $100, and buy that reel......hahaha, you know what I mean....at that price, it matters not if it is Shimano or Daiwa, the are both good.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

I have a 5000 Gosa in the arsenal but it rarely gets used, like John's post above I have seen the light with reels & now purchase the best I can afford for the sizes used most often. I am lucky to get away with smaller sized reels here in the South West so that's been the main focus & that Gosa is to be replaced with a Stella. I think Twinpower's are probably one of the best value reels for the money but I hear that there will be no SW model anymore? I would be giving the Certate's a good look Neels, slippery slope though mate I am sure many of us can attest to that

I am with you in the Quality stakes
When I bought the Gosas I was still Rallying, and Man thats expensive. So had to go for Quality but not the best. Could get 3 Gosas for 1 Stella, and I needed 4 when I got up here. Saltwater NW style is not SW SW style (wow that looks funny). So a change in tack was needed. My Gosa 14000 is used and abused, so I will retire that and I am going to get a Stella SW 10000. At least I have a chance with the GTs, and use it as a deep BB reel aswell as a troller. I sometime prefer the eggbeater to an OH, even though I love the saltiga OH's I have.
But I am more interested in the 1000-5000 range. Like I said everyone seem to like the Sustain/ Stradic/SOL's etc, but few mention the Gosas. So I am just interested!

I would happily put the Gosa
I would happily put the Gosa in the category of Sustain, Stradic's & Sol's (also Daiwa Seagate). So all that said balls to the wall Neels man up & get a Stella(s)

Daiwa Seagate Lights are
Daiwa Seagate Lights are pretty ordinary. I sold mine and replaced it with a Shimmy TP5k I got from Brody, its 10 times the reel.

Didn't realise they were that
Didn't realise they were that ordinary was chucking up for a while about putting one one a little plastics stick for deckies who don't fish. All that said it would still tie in with my opinion of those other reels; good but not great

Ahh do a bit more poking
Ahh do a bit more poking around, the ARB fails way too often on the Seagate Light 3500H. I know of at least 3-4 others with the same problem.

The reason behind not many
The reason behind not many mention of the gosas is they are a very solid/big/heavy reel for its size. Have a look at the shimano site and you will see what I mean. Nearly twice the weight of similar sized reels. Ok in the bigger sizes but huge in the smaller sizes.

certate 2010"s
although a shimano man , (stellas) i have recently used a certate 3000 2010 and they are sweet!! definately in the "top" class reels, in saying that, i won't be swapping my stellas for one any time soon but they are a bit cheaper and still a top class reel. cheers
