8ft Spin Combo

Hey guys just chasing some advice on a new 8ft spin combo, I want it for my second rod when beach fishing for tailor, I have a heap of 6ft spin combos, just chasing something a little bit longer matched up with about a 4000 size spinning reel, targeting tarwhine, skippy, whiting etc. not to concerned about the price range, any advice would be appreciated cheers.

The only problem with the 902 Starlo Shorespins, is that there isnt enough brute power to muscle a larger salmon or the likes. Great rod though, and i really rate them for the sub $120 tier. Currently using one matched to a 5000FJ Stradic.

I caught some 6-8kg Salmon at Yeagarup this Easter. Didnt worry the rod & the reel was fantastic.

Awesome fun.

i used mine down at cheynes this year aswell, and found that there just wasnt enough to muscle the fish up onto lower ledges on the rocks. Perfect rod for reef and beach work, but when you need to pull a fish up the rocks, it doesnt fare as well. Thats what i meant haha.

My goto gear for that purpose, upgrade to carbontex drag washers and run 20pd braid. Has stopped a couple of big beasts too.

Fri, 2012-06-15 16:31

Stradic 4000FJ matched with either a Daiwa Lateo Pirate 9'6MH, or a Seajigger 315. Perfect combo for running 15-20lb.
The Seajigger has a bit more guts down low than the Pirate in the same rating.

Yeah I own 2 4000FJ stradics and rate them highly, one is on a 9'6 Lateo pirate great for the lighter lures but good stopping power also

Fri, 2012-06-15 19:25

have you thought about the new Sustains in the 4000 size, quite a bit lighter than the stradics (think they are running CI4) matched with a starlo stik, or a TD Sol 4000 with the sea jigger 315 or 305 maybe? Or even go all out if money not an issue and grab a Stella, Hyper Certate, Saltiga...and maybe match it to a LOX Iridium surf 12210...i know longer than a 9' but light and very strong or a Daiwa shore jigger SJ96M 12-25lb line class...really the options are endless. I suppose check them all out and get a feel for them.  I run a 9' t-curve with a 5000SW and love it...i know the rods a little heavy but has alot of power behind them. Got some big brutes with this one.

If your sculling those sort of fish in on that rig I can't see you having a problem with Salmon.

Stradic seems to be popular!

Sat, 2012-06-23 09:52

I use a stradic 4000 (old model) with 20lb braid and a 2nd spool that has been filled yet, matched up with a Lox Travel s7655 (5pce). I bought this travel rod as my rod flew out of my boat one day (so i bought one that comes in 5 peices and a travel case). Light if it needs to be, and also heavy enough to pull big critters out of their holes! Caught everything from squid, dhies, baldy's to estuary cod and spango's up north. Great outfit

my 2c worth

I had a Shimano Nexave 902, for a couple of years. Great rod for the price, heaps of guts pulling salmon out of the surf or getting little GTs out of the coral up north. Much more power than it looks. Wouldnt try to dead lift a 10lb fish on it though. Really versatile size, cast a 65g metal a long way, fit in the car easy, easy to cast for a few hours, took it everywhere. Slammed a door on it, end of that story. Had a 5000 stradic on it, awesome reel!

The shimano was so good i upgraded to a 9'6 shore jigger. Its a bit  lighter in the tip and doesnt like the 65g metal as much as 40g, but does it no worries. Doesnt seem to cast any further than the shimano, but does it heaps easier, is really light and effortless to use and i like the big foam hand grip at the top. And it looks nice. Bit exy but at 280.

I also got a 12 ft sensor surf. Awesome surf rod, not built for casting lures but.

Sun, 2012-07-01 21:54

have both these rods and both are awesome, only had my 12 sensor the other night and thought id try throw out a 135 Rooster popper and pegged it a mile there 47g so was quite impressed, long hand grip allows you to get the speed up. Shore Jigger cast a mile upto 50g and built strong with the K guides.

There have been a couple 2nd hand Daiwa Tournament Master S going on here for around the 100$ be perfect also.
