90 Merc outboard reverse problem

Hi Guys,
Having problem finding reverse, just been getting an awful grinding noise- I'm guessing or hoping the cable just needs to be adjusted at the motor??
Tried to shift really quickly into reverse but then the the motor would pop out of the water and rev really high???
Any advice???

Would definately try the adjustment first. Lift the cowl off and it will be at the cables under there.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

does this
noise happen all the way through the reverse gear and if the motor was able to lift up in reverse gear i would seriously take a look at your power trim

you said it lifts
up out the water when reversing, it would rev high because of cavitation
that would probably be a prob with you powertrim
and the grinding noise could be the cable
remeber with engine problems, always try one thing at a time to eliminate the possibily so if something else happens you know exacltl what you have changed
