Two men fishing off WA's South West coast on Tuesday have reeled in a 96 kilogram broadbill swordfish in waters where the species is considered incredibly rare, according to the Department of Fisheries.

37 kg game gear, doing an alnighter. I think they may of been targeting them. Given journalists a silly story. I maybe wrong but they weren't chasing Dhuis.

only one thing you do when
only one thing you do when you go ut all night with 37kg. Not incredibly rare either. just not many people target them. Look at how abundant they are around NZ.

Not rare, longliners used to catch more than a few.
Hell, I caught one off Oyster Reef at Kalbarri

Rare?
That is hilarious, from this time onwards they are common on the south coast.
April/May we would catch maybe 20-30 tonnes working between Bremer and Leuuwin
We reported to AFMA though as it is a Commonwealth fishery, but I guess WAF were out of the loop...
Several times we had WAF people come aboard for a look
"Hey your not allowed to land marlin"
"yes we are, but we dont. They are not marlin"
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Yeah there is a fair few
Yeah there is a fair few down that way!!! However I don't really believe the 3km offshore bit...... I've always wanted to have a crack at them as well! Just gotta get the weather right, but I wouldn't be able to handle it if I went over a school of blue eye. Have been told story's of broadies hitting nannies 10m before they get to the boat!

+1
havent fished offshore from Walpole, but 3km would surely be in KG ground. Paper may have meant 30km.
Still a great catch any where.
