9wt fly rod, Where to buy in Perth
Submitted by Tony on Tue, 2013-10-29 10:32
I've recently started fly fishing, I purchased a 9wt Wildfisher rod and a Shimano Bio Craft reel and I'm getting about 50-60 ft on the casts on a windy day.
Captures of small GT's, queenies, flathead and black snapper are becoming more consistant from a boat or walking the flats around Carnarvon.
Somehow I managed to put the hook point right into the blank of the rod (about a foot from the tip) while casting and then it broke not long after that.
I'll be in Perth later this week/early next and I'm looking for a new rod around the $350 mark.
Where is the best shops for fly gear in Perth?
Thanks.

I have the same
I have the same rod but not quite getting the distance you can . I'm struggling with the Salt water line. ( It casts alot different than trout line ) I will be going to see the owner of Flyworld for some lessons. His shop is in Maylands/ Bayswater and is a great guy to deal with.
For all your fly gear i recomend you drop into his shop, but for a new rod he might be priced a bit higher than you want to spend. ( he stocks high quallity rods)
My other rods are Sage that i bought from Bluewater Morley( also got the Wildfisher there ) but the no longer stock fly gear. One of the site sponsers might be able to help you or point you in the right direction. Try Oceanside Tackle and Marine , great guys there .
Here is a link to Flyworld , definately worth a look around his store . http://www.flyworld.com.au/view/home/
Cheers Grant ..

Yep, minature balls of
Yep, minature balls of muscle.
They are hard to sight fish wading on the flats because they move so fast and spook easy. Much easier out of the boat tho.

Now, that looks like fun.
I'll have to give that a go, I've never really given fly fishing a good go, but will have to. What other species do you catch on a fly?

What I have found easier is to go in 2s, ie 8wt, 10wt 6wt etc.
There does seem to be more choice in these I noticed rather than the odd numbered wt rods. Use a 6wt down here for Herring, tailor etc and its great fun. Up in Dampier used an 8wt and rarely the 10, but never targetted sails etc. 8wt was great until a GT tore it a new a/hole

The 9 wt was recomended as a
The 9 wt was recomended as a good allrounder for northern waters, once I realy get the hang of it I might look at something smaller.
Or heavier, who knows.
Thanks

Thanks for that, only
Thanks for that, only getting 50-60 every now and then. A good day will be 1 in 3 casts, can't wait till I can get 50 all the time with minimal false casting.
I haven't seen many blokes fly fishing around Carnarvon, plenty up a at Exmouth.

mate go to www.mudhole.com
mate go to www.mudhole.com and build your own for less than half the price of the high end stuff. i built a 5wt for trout down south and its awesome! im going to build a 6"6 3wt next for the tighter areas. fly rods are the easiest rods to build and mine only took me 3 hours with no rod lathe. give it a go.

Hey profish , the Australian
Hey profish , the Australian saltwater one looks pretty good ..however the 'joincode' email thing isn't working and when you try the 'contact us' option it then asks for another 'join code' haha pretty ironic I think -__-
are you a member and if so can you hit them up to get the auto response for 'join code' to work ?
Eternally in your debt
