Add your photos here - couple of Pilbara shots to get started

Well i only started a new thread because taylor marc's has so many photos now it takes a little while to load up

though we could start again

Been practising some of my shots

Here are a few Pseudo HDR shots i have taken, it is my first real attempt at this type of shot, reasonably happy with them.

Fri, 2009-09-11 16:21

Hey guys just another quick question, do you use an external host ( photobucket etc ) to get the large pic's to load. Mine only seem to come out relatively small and of a different quality to what is on my computer.

Cheers Mick

I have my photos on Red Bubble:

So i've just copied them over to here using the URL from red bubble.

I also use Flickr which is also a really good site for photo storage.

yeah I think the drupal software restricts the size of pics. Use photobucket and you can put bigger pics on the forum.

Yep

Yeh, you can use photobucket and just copy the tags.  I have set it to a maximum size so we don't get 2000x2000 photos which blow the load times out.

Hey Jay, nah mate just the standard lens that came with the camera. Im still tossing up whether to get a better lens and keep the camera body, or upgrade my camera completly. Still be a while off either way.

HDR - (I got this explaination from someone else's post on redbubble mate...)

Dynamic range means the difference between the lightest and the darkest color value in an image. the dynamic range in a DSLR is quite small as compared to what our eyes can see and what the actual DR is. To overcome this limitation, photographers, take 3 shots of the same image at different exposures and then combine them in post production. The concept and the methods are explained in detail in the link given below:

Hey Sheldon is that similar to bracketing? Like the three photo's at different exposures. If so what are you using post production?

it is in post production that you blend the three photos and utilise the dynamic range of colours of all three photos combined

hippy shots!

Sun, 2009-09-13 16:09

Well I have finally gone and got myself an accout so I don't use Wade's!  Here are a couple of my favourite shots - taken with point and shoot cameras.  You can guess I work in the environmental field! I would love to learn how to use a SLR camera one day!

This is a gecko I took with a Fuji Finepix (about a 2004 model) and I had no idea how to use it but managed to get a nice clear close-up of all the dirt between my finger prints!  I entered it into the Snowden Photo competition for a mining related photo and got first prize....a nice $10K!

This is a baby bearded dragon.  I was checking some trenches at work and he and his brothers/sisters must have just been born and fallen into the trench.  All were rescued! Taken with an Olympus MJU 1030 point and shoot

This is a dragonfly at a lake near my work. Taken with an olympus MJU1030.

This is a butterfly which had been 'caught' by a sundew (carnivorous plant).  I managed to save about 50 butterflies that day!  Again, an Olympus MJU1030 in macro.

This is a trigger-plant I discovered (yes, never recorded in the world before!) last year near the mine I work at.  Unfortunately they didn't name it after me - it is called Stylidium sp. Yalgoo!  The flower is about 2cm and about 1cm off the ground.  Taken with an Olympus MJU1030 on super macro.

This is a desert sturt pea up at Whim Creek, again taken with an Olympus MJU

Hey Jay,

Both Wade and I work at a mine called Golden Grove.  It is an underground  base metals mine (zinc & copper) about 280km east of Geraldton.  Love those equal time rosters, means plenty of time back home fishing and not having crowded ramps!

Sure will Mick. Kel sits next to me in our office!  We're both heading out tomorrow to do monitoring of an inland salt lake - should be fun! I managed to claim my skippers ticket on tax lat year as we needed a boat for the sampling (only had an 8hp motor though). Unfortunately this year the lake is bone dry!
