G'day guys i was wondering if anyone knew a good anchor winch last few times I've been out we've been getting pretty sick of pulling anchor so I've decided to invest in a anchor winch If anyone knows any good brands for a reasonable price don't want to be spending $1000 000 on a winch cheers guys

Think one of the best brands
Think one of the best brands is "Deckie". Even pays for half the fuel.

I'd be kinda interested in this in the not too distant future, will keep an eye on any suggestions. I've checked out Lewmar which certainly look the goods. Don't know about fitting into the $1000 budget though.

I have been looking into this
I have been looking into this a bit but the shape of my boat restricts the style of winch I could install. The one I was recomended by some mates who had them was a Stress Free drum winch... they are South Australia made and come in a veriety of sizes with a free fall option although they were a bit more expensive. the one I was going to go with was a South Pacific Pro Cv which is installed on the inside of the anchor well and mounted in a horizontal position and lets the rope and chain drop into the well below it... This was also the cheapest winch although it had no free fall... other than that the brand Lewmar seem to be a fair price for a good quallity winch.
Also if I was still going to buy one I would probably wait an have a look around at the boat shows for a demonstraition and you can often save a fair bit on price too.

Getting enough drop to run a
Getting enough drop to run a gypsy style winch can be a pain. Be warned, chain falls ok but running too much chain seems to reall guarantee entanglement.

A $1000 anchor winch will
A $1000 anchor winch will still cost you at least anouther $600 even if you fitted it yourself.
The electrical wiring is not cheap, also your rope and chain will be about $300ish..
The drum style though will run what you allready have but hard to get to fit..

I was going to suggest the
I was going to suggest the foam retriever buoy as well I've got a winch on my boat but I never use it mind u I don't anchor up in deep water much I found cause it didn't have free fall it took to long to drop the anchor and it seems to drain a lot of power out of the batteries

Anchor winch
I have a Maxwell 850W winch on my 7.5 m Supercraft up in Hedland. Highly recommend it. Stay away from the cheapies as i was even advised by the guys who sold me the winch not to buy a South Pacific (which they also sold) as most of them come back for repairs while still in warranty. If you are serious, i would advise to go for the freefall system, as the winch down is a pain in the a if you're trying to get the pick down in a hurry. Need to make sure you have large enough wiring to run it as well. Smaller wiring causes volt drop which will cause the winch to draw more power and not work as well. Remember you get what you pay for!!!!

I didn't realise South
I didn't realise South Pacific were a cheap/ poor quallity brand... I am glad you pointed it out... I just liked the way they did the verticle gypsy style without the guide (pro cv) so you could side mount it horizontaly on their braket to the back wall of the anchor well... I would agree with the freefall option too... if you can get it...

Check out
Trade me that Kiwi site there was a guy who makes stainless drum winches similar to stress free for about 700 bucks. The last lot he sold out of very quick.
