Pete D's First Deepwater Fish

With the forecast for yesterday looking reasonable (especialy in the arvo) and my mate Pete D one very keen angler to tangle with his first deepwater fish I didnt need much arm twisting!

Gentlemans hour launch and off to the deep it was. Fish located and down went 2 baited up circle hooks with the wind just hinting it was going to back off!

Pete was using my new Jigging Master Titanium Evolution 400 overhead rod and my Daiwa Electric reel which was put into action on the first drop with a solid hook up that pulled some line!

Pete hooked up!

Hows it going Pete........are ya winning?

The result, Pete D's first deepwater fish and a cracker at that................Bass Groper (weighed 33.5kg)

I had a few drops after that but zip..........mission was to get Pete onto his first deepwater fish and that he did...........well done mate

Plenty of whales around that surrounded us  and a sun fish that cruised up to my boat which was cool!

Coming back in with calm waters and a lazy 40knots all the way in.........great day on the water

Awesome!

What a cracking fish, congrats mate, awesome capture...you are a god!

Hang-on, that's me!  About time I escaped from work.

Top stuff Ryan.  It was a fun day and one I won't forget in a hurry and cheers for loaning ya sweet outfit.  Seeing 350m+ on the counter was not great, but using each 10m reduction as a goal got me through in just a little over 30 minutes.  Flicking that little switch was in my mind after 10 minutes, but I'm glad and thoroughly satisfied that I toughed it out.  I was surprised how light and comfortable that electric outfit was - top unit.  Hmmm, that first pic is not good timing - here I am trying to give a thumbs up when I was hurting.  Think I told you politely to go away, I'm concentrating.

A few drops (more like 10!) for nil result after my fish - thats when the switch gets flicked forward!

Flat out at work again (thanks for doing the write-up Ryan), but still on a high and can't wait to get home and start the filleting process.

The 'fish pic' has been a great work stress relief tool today aswell - engineers hassling me, I just pop that pic up

Hahaha, 1 hour back to the ramp was a sweet way to end the day aswell....hmmm I want a Patriot.

Cheers Pete

Nice work fellas, I suppose 240m isn't really deep these days - 300+ is the new benchmark. :)  Solid fish.

And excellent skipper skills from Ryan as usual.

Looks like you guys are starting to get some decent weather.......next it will be stinking hot and diving aplenty during the ban.

For us it is warming up so that means the Barra are firing but so are the handbags....

5m plus.....

Nice work Pete and Ryan. Quality fish once again. Deep water is all the rage right now. Lucky you had it sussed years ago Ryan, makes finding/catching quality deepwater fish a little easier.

Humpies

Tue, 2011-09-13 10:44

Pain in the arse whales - they kept coming to the boat once a drift was set.

Humpback calf wanted to interact and of course mum would follow.  Mum did jump out of the water about 50 m away - that was a site!

Cheers Pete
