And another 3 bite the dust - well done again fisheries

Page 6 of todays Mandurah Coastal Times has a story about 3 people Hannah Din, Eh Ku and Dunan Sun facing court over the taking of under size carbs. They got a good tongue lashing from the magistrate and Din and Ku were also fined $1000 plus $4250 mandatory penalty for taking 85 under size crabs with some of them measuring just 69mm.

The magistrate also fined Dunan Sun $200 with a mandatory fine of $7400 for taking 148 under size crabs.

Two of Suns co-accused pleaded not guilty and will appear in court later this year.

It was also reported a fourth accused faced court eerlier this year and was fined the same amount.

Well done Fisheries.

long story short  mates waiting at the car for them to get back... They come rushing in telling him quick quick we go now..

he looks in the bucket.... they took  everything they caught heaps undersized.. Lucky my mate was there he had a word to them and chucked all the undersized ones back

 69mm length! That's just ridiculous.

Hopefully the 7k fine will teach them a serious lesson. Crabs are not worth that kind of money!

Now with several of these hefty fines every year I wonder what fisheries will reinvest this money in...

What good is a licence going

Thu, 2016-05-26 21:22

What good is a licence going to do unless it fund an army of fisheries officers who's specific job it is to target those who fit the 'profile' for crab plunderers?

Fines means buggar all , bit

Wed, 2016-05-25 17:14

Fines means buggar all , bit of a hiccup , unless they have a descent job they’ll just do a week or two at Hotel Hakea .. and then back to work flogging seafood on the black market .  We often hear people getting busted with hundreds of crabs at a time , that’s a pretty big bag for just the family to feed on

Could send them to that island where all the ghost crabs run across the road! Maybe christmass island I think! They can eat all those crabs. Plenty of them. No size limit.

They obviously can't so I just reckon hours and boring hours of community service. If they don't show up then a reasonably long holiday instead. The powers that be need to be serious in their deterents.
