everytime I hear this it
everytime I hear this it makes me have a rethink diving.
And would love to know exactly what happened in the lead up and actual incident to learn from it.
But chances are the full story is never divulged unfortunately, either because those involved dont want to talk or there is no witness.

They said his mate surfaced
They said his mate surfaced after the dive and seen him floating 50m away. This is why we dive with dive buddies ,if they had stuck together maybe he would still be with us. We dived today ,Jesse couldnt equlize going down but he stayed 4m down and followed me , good to know someone is with you incase things go pear shaped.I to keep checking him in no mans land , They said he dived alone most days ,Not a good habit to get into .Condolances to his freinds and family so close to christmas..

We launched at perron and when we returned it was all happening,
I agree totally , and have mentioned it before on here, about learning from accidents on the water.
How many boating , fishing , and diving misshaps have there been in W.A in the last couple of years?
All those deaths , yet most , if not all of us havent learnt anything from them , when theres almost no detailed accident reports
released to the public , esp to the people whom have the most to loose , us?
How many of us read detailed accident reports in work , and read all those internal memos, accident shares etc etc
so we dont fall fowl of the same thing at work and yet its sadly lacking in our private and rec lives , therefor dooming us to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Good Point
Quadfisher, the report did say police will get his gear checked, but i think we have had a couple this year but dont hear the full story, not that we all need too but im sure keen divers would read and take note like we do at work etc.
Condollences to the family..RIP

If we read anything it is
If we read anything it is written in the West Australian by a bored court/inquest reporter who has zero knowledge of diving and skips over the 3 pages of technical info and just says "he drowned"
Just sobering to realize how quickly things can go pearshaped underwater.

R.I.P Scuba dude.
Just a added tip ,stay cool, drink water before you dive ,take your time gearing up and dont rush it .
Put your wetsuit on then jump in the water so you dont over heat your body before a dive .
I have seen so many divers say "i'am Knackered before they get in the water.
TAKE YOUR TIME & STAY COOL.
Have a merry and safe Christmas to all !!

good advise
I have known a couple of divers who died while diving, one was from an aneurism he didn't know he had, and another was from a steel tank that had been filled for a while, gone rusty inside, and was very low in oxygen . When bush walkers have "a bad turn" , they are mostly found alive and survive,, a diver mostly won't get a second chance.

Something that I have learnt
Something that I have learnt over the past couple of years is that my first few tanks of the season generally go really quick. Generally we dive shallow, and get two 45 minute dives off one steely tank. My 2nd dive on Saturday was a bit of a funny one with my regulator deciding to have a big purge as I entered the water, causing me a loss of 20 bar. Still managed to get 30/40 minutes down, but I kept an eye on my air the whole time.
Sincerest condolonces to the couple of divers that have passed this year. I would be curious to know if there was air in the tank, or if a regulator shat itself ect rather than just 'drowned'
People should always be aware of their fitness and know that one more cray isnt always worth it.

May he rest peacefully. Sad to hear this news in this joyous season. Again a reminder for people to be cautious and extra careful in everything you do.

Hows this?!

How many signs, harm/risk reduction methods can you have and still not prevent stuff like this. One Certified Diver, but not cave endorsed dead at 42mt, second 15 Year old untrained diver dead at 22mts. Brand new gear, uncertified divers, no shakedown run on an easy dive. I just shake my head.
