Any FAD / Trench reports?

Just wondering if anybody been out there and had any luck with dollies on the FADs  or any tuna or marlin out over the trench? Looking forward  to getting out there when the weather allows cheers

my boat partner was out

Thu, 2016-01-14 10:15

my boat partner was out Monday running mostly in the 600-800m mark but for zero return - seems to have had a good time at the pub afterwards (judging by the state/smell of the boat next day...)

cool - I used to be penned opposite the aqua blue hulled 37(ish) Cabo with the white tower in the DPI pens of Capo D'Orlando drive - fantastic boat, along with Rampage one of my favourite boats
The way things are looking this year (already) wont be any closer to getting one any time soon!

Luhrs

Thu, 2016-01-14 14:01

I think the blue boat you're talking about is Luhrs, there was a blue 37 Luhrs in a DPI pen, sold about six months ago.

That was us.  Dragged big gear all day but didnt see any fireworks.  Lots of tuna about and was working a nice 23deg temp break but no dice.  Dollies were turning up their noses at live herring so can only assume theyd been molested over the xmas/NY period (even with 15lb FC leader).  FSC had marlin comp today so more reports likely to come through.

Mon, 2016-01-18 13:20

We went out to the northern most FAD ( i think that is the PGFC one ) on Saturday. Saw some what looked like some big yellow tail kingfish smashing up bait on the surface on the way there. The water temp was warmer closer to Rotto than at the FAD. Couldn't see any dollys, just hooked up to a baby YTK and that was it. No one else was there when we were there.

Wed, 2016-01-20 14:05

Are you sure they were YTK's?  We landed quite a few on Saturday around HYC FAD. They were taking Pakula's almost the same size as themselves. Thick schools under the FAD

Looked more like a Rainbow runner than a YTK

Thu, 2016-01-21 07:35

The blue we caught at the trecnch last weekend  was around 350 kg. not sure where all the other weights have come from. It was an awsome fish. Found some warm water north of the trench in the 600 metre line. Had good current line and held plenty of bait.

Record?

Thu, 2016-01-21 11:26

What line class was it on?  At 350kg it would be a WA state record on anything except 60kg.

Fish was caught on a 10 inch

Thu, 2016-01-21 19:42

Fish was caught on a 10 inch black and purple hard resin head, 37kg line. Don't have the short measurement on hand, we did throw out a bull fish measuring tape it roughly put the short measure my in the 400 kg bracket. This is not always easy to accurately get and it also lacked a bit of thickness. We've caught a few fish this size and would only consider tying gaffs off for a record if we were sure it would be well over the current standing. I've been present at the last two records in Exmouth.
